I have a new edelbrock carb on my 78 F-100, and now it is cutting out. It is on a 76 390, and the carb is a 750 edelbrock with a manual choke. You can start it fine, and it will idle just fine, then you accelerate and get up to speed, about 1 minute after going down the road it will start to cut out, almost as if the fuel bowl emptys then it can not get any gas. When i put the carb, a guy told me that there is a fuel filter in there, like the stock for carb, but i found just a little screen. After the cutting out starts, i put a fuel filter on there, a little after the fact. Do you think this is in the carb, or in the pump. It can sit there and idle all day, but after about a minute from taking off, it will start to cut out. I have 3/8 line running from the pump to the carb, i had to replace that, but from my knowlegde, it was 3/8 which was on there. Should i take the carb apart and clean it? I am getting a fuel pressure gauge tonite, but what the pressure is supposed to be? I have adjusted the timing, and it does not help.
Fuel pressure should be around 5-6 lbs.
It could be vapor locking. Check the oil to make sure that the diaphram in the pump hasn't ruptured and it is pumping gas into the crankcase.
