Carb problems!

Hello Everyone,
Recently the carburator in my truck has been acting up my truck is a 1978 f150 302 engine and I beleive the carb is a 2barrel. Well the problem is some days it wont idle at all then the other days it idles and runs smooth if that isnt bad enough some times when you press the gas pedal to go you get nothen for about 2 or 3 seconds and then it will just take off which isnt good when you gun it to pull out on a busy road...also the truck is back firering alot when you let of the gas pedal. And you have to put the gas pedal all the way to the floor just to get it up to 40 mph. And I know its not the engine cause everything has been replaced except the carb and I dont have any exhaust restrictions straight pipes off the engine. Do you think my carburater is done for? Does it just need adjusted or does it need rebuilt..??? I did notice the accelerator pump isnt hooked up to anything. I havent found any books on adjusting it mabey there isnt any. its a motor craft carburater if that helps.
If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, if the accelerator pump isn't hooked up, it will bog severely and be hard to accelerate. Sounds like a rebuild wouldn't hurt either as well as a new fuel filter.

Jimmy is right.

Those carbs are not hard to rebuild. Just pay attention to how it comes apart so you can put it back together. If you run into any problems just fire off a message here and someone will chime in.

Good luck,
Lee
