ya the gem will do all sorts of weird stuff.
my windshield leaked once and all the water went down down into my fuse panel and got into my gem modual. everything went weird just like you was explaining. once i got the water out of there my problems went away. but if your gem is bad that probably explains it.

The GEM looked like new as did all of the main connectors. No signs that water was ever in there. If that turns out to be the problem, something else other than water made it fail. I'm hoping that's what it is as nearly everything that goes through the GEM isn't working correctly.

General Electronic Module - It controls many things electrical - Interior lights, Wipers, Washer, alarms, ESOF 4x4, Power windows/locks;/etc.

my truck as simular problems I have no dome lights dash lights flicker with lights off my 4x4 is goofy takes along time screwing around with the switch to work and I hear a beeping sound every once and a while all with no codes look at that first i just gave up and am putting up with it for now

On my 2000 it is on the back of the interior fuse block.

well you won't have the same issues. like my truck messed with the radio, horn, wipers, door locks, and a bunch of other stuff. most of them would come on at random times even with the key off just sitting in my garage.

So what does this unit look like and are they all located in the same spot? Does it have a bunch of wires going to it?
This is new to me, I've never heard of something like this going out and causing these issues
