I've got a 4x4 Lariat screw with a May 10 build date. It has the throttle lag, but seems to be improving slightly as I put more miles on it. Now up to 750 miles. How long does it take for the computer to "learn" your driving habits?
Derbystud, looking forward to your update, thanks. My main complaints are: 1) when backing it into my garage I have to almost powerbrake the engine to compensate for the lag and 2) some hesitation during passing, need to force downshift with heavy foot.
Could the lag be produced as a by-product of the computers learning curve? more or less that the throttle timing is set loose so as to gently adjust to the users driving habits and/or style? if so, then on the same token wouldnt a large series of rapid acceleration/decelleration sets correct it? something like going to the local drag stip for a couple weekends? heavy drag acceleration would give a high readings from the sensor raising the average used to derive your "personal" driving characteristics? just a thought i got from reading this thread....im going to have mine done when i get my liner sprayed..
derbystud I was like you & everyone else having the "lag" & had it hooked up today @ Ford w/ no updates. The tech there said he would by pass that & run a complete re-flash anyway to see if it would help. He showed me so I could explain the best I can to the rest of you. He let the computer tell him there were no trouble codes first & let it run thru its program then @ the end he "re-flashed" which took approx. 20 seconds & that was that. He explained that the system said there wer no new updates in the computer BUT after it tells you that you can tell the computer to update anyway even though it shows nothing wrong. I think it told him 2x's there was nothing showing wrong & then finished the program. He told me he didn't know if that would help but to give it a try & not to pay attention to the strange stuff that takes place for the next 10 miles or so. I'm glad he warned me because everything went crazy on the way home. All the gauges were jumping around , the throttle responce was WORSE than ever & after just paying a small fortune @ the gas pumps it was showing "E" on the dash. Before I made it home I had what felt like a NEW / DIFFERENT truck. I have not had any problems since & love the ride & more power even more than before.
THANK YOU to everyone on here because w/out you things would still be the same & I'd never have known to take it in.
Just 1 more thing the guy @ Ford told me to pass on:
He did say to use the term " re-flash " instead of saying a lag in the throttle because the guys working can only hook up the computer & ask it about the problem you say your having. This has nothing to do w/ a problem w/ the throttle & the computer will keep telling them theres no problem codes there. So my guy say just ask to have it re-flashed / or PCM updated or both. I have an open invitation in his bay whenever I want to check for updates // so anyone in the Richmond , Va. area Universal - Ryan is who you need to talk to.
Sorry so long but I just hope this helps someone else out......... THANKS AGAIN
Mike
Was at the dealer today getting my first service and the machine to flash was not available. They scheduled me for Monday at 8am to do it. Let you guys know what happens.
Getting the PCM updated or reflashed tomorrow. Hopefully it will improve the acceleration hesitation and improve mileage. Will see what happens tomorrow.
I took my truck in this morning(7-24) for slow throttle response and they updated the PCM. They put a sticker on the hood that has the code 4U7A-AAB. I can't really tell any difference in performance. It still will not spin the back tires. It still does not respond to quick throttle blips either.

Ditto on what dgdee said. I had the new throttle body installed and the reflash done yesterday (7-23-04). I didn't notice any remarkable change. The throttle lag is still there.
I forgot to include the new code in the post above. The new tag says my PCM program is 4L3A-APE. Why aren't all of the vehicles reflashed to the same program? Difference in location??? Maybe 4x4 vs 4x2???
