WOW.....wouldn't it be nice if we Americans could have your Ford/Australia 260 KW and 290 KW, 32 valve, DOHC engines for our 2004 F-150's?!?!?! I'd just love to get my hands on one of those 290 KW "BOSS" engines for my truck....
Me thinks that would be the end of all this "HEMI" crap we have to put up with in Dodge's truck and sport utility magazine and television ads.....
Hope you enjoy your new truck as much as I am enjoying mine...
Fred
G Day Fanman,
The 32 valve heads are same as MustangR i think, but the intake manifold was designed and cast at ford Gelong Melbourne plant, they have real high intake thats why the 260KW and 290KW have a buldge on Hood to clear motor. a company named Crow worked with factory and designed and made the Cams.
i like the 24 valve as they have Torque instantly the 32 valve need a few revs up. GM make a Ute about same size that uses the LS1 350, they call these GM Utes Comodore and they have a lions head for a badge, and they call the Boss 290 Ute the lion tammer LOL. they have road races with them and call the series the Brute Ute's, its very rough and wild and close raceing on sealed road race tracks. can see the GM holden Comodore Utes at www.holden.com.au

I just took my truck in for it's regular 5,000 mile oil change (actually have 16,118 miles on the truck), and while I was talking with my service advisor, I told him that my truck had recently started "sporadically hesitating on acceleration....just some of the time, and NOT all the time".
He told me that Ford had issued a TSB regarding this problem, and said they would put my truck on the computer and run the "EEC Test Codes" for any
"failures", then re-program the PCM.
The following is exactly what was printed on my service order:
"Job # 2 04FOZ Drivability TECH(S): 5033 WARRANTY
Hesitates on acceleration:
Run EEC Test Code KOEO - Pass. KOEC - Pass. KOER - Pass. Run DCL - OK.
All Performance Tests - Pass. REPROGRAM PCM. Retest - P1000."
After this PCM "reprogramming" or "re-flashing" as some of you called it......I can honestly say that the engine seems to have more HP and MUCH BETTER throttle response when you push the go pedal. And, the transmission shifts more smoothly. I have only driven it about 30 miles since I had this work done, so I can't comment on any MPG (up or down) changes yet.
Obviously, I will be keeping a close eye on this and will update you with any more information as it becomes available.
I had my lariat 4X4 reflashed last Thursday. Took a little drive into the mountains on Sunday about 150 miles driving between 50 - 70 mph. Normal driving on twisty roads.
Mileage was 18.5 MPG. The reflash took out the throttle hesitation and it appears I am getting better mileage.

Jim,
What was your TSB #??? Do you have any info on any paperwork they gave you? I am taking mine in Monday and the service dept acted on the phone like they did not know anything about this reflash for throttle and better MPG. I have yet to hit 14MPG on my 04 FX4. Usually get around 13.5
I've got an appt Saturday to get my PCM updated...thanks for the info. I'm in the middle of Kansas and the service advisor talked to a tech and told me "Yes, there is an update...bring it on in." So, anyone that gets told there is "no reprogramming of the throttle" should talk to another person/dealership.
My truck was perfect until I unhooked the battery to install an Airaid system (just following the instructions). Apparently unhooking the battery will kill your programming because the truck instantly changed shift points (started in too high of a gear and shifted into overdrive way too quickly) and made the idle low. I figured it was in the programming so I had my truck "updated" and now it is back to at least closer to what I remember with decent shift points and better throttle response.
If you unhook the battery, you'll probably have to take it back in for the update again because the base programming sucks!

NO. Give it time it will get better, it learned how you drove; it and adjusted to you. And when you killed the power to it it forgot YOU.
Just wondering if the trucks being built now are coming with the pcm update, Anyone know?
My bet is they do. But when you do meet your service manager (on the day you pick up your truck) make sure to ask him about it. That way you know if that particular dealership keeps up with the current program. Seems like some in here are having some dealers not even know what it's about.
Ok, now I'm ****ed.....I took my truck in last week for it's 5K mile check up and told them about the throttle response and the I was almost rearended several times entering the freeway because of it. They said there is no reflash. I'm going to print this whole thread out and take it back in.
I work at Ford, and own a 04 Lariat SCREW. After reading several posts about the throttle issues, I went to the executivie garage and asked about a TSB on the issue. He brought up the 2004 F-150 and there were only 14 TSB's on the truck. None pertained to the throttle issues. So Ford is not owning up to the issue, but from what I heard in other posts, Ford is updating the computer. Basically without hooking up the machine there is no way to tell if there is an update available. From what the tech said it would only take a few minutes to do. I'm trying to get mine in to have it checked.
Mine was updated with latest codes last week while it was in for some warranty work. I accidentally spun the tires the first few times I pulled away from a dead stop. Man what a difference
