Mine is done...here's my scoop...

Took it in, said that there was a tremedous throttle delay/lag (amongst a few other things). When I picked it up they said they had no TSB's on it and said it was ok. I asked if they hooked it up to the computer to see if there was any updates and they said no, but they would just to check now for me. They did...and what do you know...an update! So they updated!

My opinion on it now, there still is a little lag, but far less. The engine feels a bit more responsive and beefy, and yes, I can twist the rears now with no prob!

As for milage, we will see...

BTW...job done at Fairport Ford, Rochester NY!

Thumbs up

A few days ago, the check engine light came on along with the "engine in fail safe mode" in the message center. I turned the engine off and restarted it. This time, no fail safe message, but the check engine light remained on.

I took it to the dealer, and they found the same thing that others here have reported....P2106 code. The tech looked up the SSM's, and found the info regarding the updated reflash for the PCM. The tech wanted to do a little more research before updating the PCM. He took the truck for a drive with the scan tool connected and discovered that the readings between the throttle body and the accelerator pedal were within specs.

So....there is a new throttle body assembly on order. The tech wants to get that working correctly first.

After reading all of the positive responses regarding the new reflash, I may have them do it also. I do have a bit of a dead spot in the throttle, but just figured that just the way fly by wire acted.

I had mine reprogrammed today, and I can tell the difference too. I used the "it hesitate a little" excuse and there was no charge. I even got a free truck wash out of the trip. North Central Ford in Dallas is great.

The dealer reprogrammed my PCM yesterday, let me tell you, the truck feels faster than the Titan I test drove before I bought my F150!

He did it because I complained about it idling rough.

The only thing it says on my invoice for the "PCM Calibration" is "Operation 12650D". I dont know what that means, but i hope it helps.

Also, I had the O-ring in the differential replaced because my truck made the whining noise at around 70 MPH...the sound is now gone.

Oh, and if you live in Orange County, CA you should go to Fairway Ford. I have taken my last two trucks exclusively to them because they always fix it right, and they always give good service.

Could you give more information on the O ring you had replaced. I too have the whine which is evident between 45 - 55 mph.

Thanks.

FX4Dude,

Well, I did not know what was causing the problem, but the dealer said that it is becoming pretty common. The invoice said the following:

"Cause : Ring and Pinion
Correction: Difernetial Carrier Assembly - In Chassis - Integral Carrier

Ring Gear and Pinion Set : Replace
Differential Assembly : Overhaul"

Then it lists all the parts and the steps to be done, like replace or re-lube, etc...

The guy who writes the service invoice told me that it is due to a bad O-Ring.

I hope that was helpful.

Has anyone gotten their PCM reprogrammed on a truck with a mfg date of May 2004 or newer? I, too, feel a slight lag in throttle response...thinking of taking it in this weekend.

I am a Ford tech. I just bought a screw with a little throttle lag so i tried updating it. It has a build date of may 04. There was not a update for it yet, I guess i just have to live with it. I have about 300 miles on it now and i think it is getting a little better every day as it breaks in. Hope this answers your question. Ill keep checking for a update and let you know when its available.
