Throttle reprogramming?
#17
Not sure on current reflash code but was informed that an update would be out late June early July, so guess my 2.5 hr (5 min reprogramming) will happen again in July. It did make a difference. Now I am more confident pulling out in front of a 80 mph semi to pass someone....JK! It really did make a difference though!

Had mine reflashed and it made a big GOOD difference in throttle response and improved the shift points. The tech told me they hook the computer up to the scanner and then it goes on the internet to Ford and compares your PCM code with the latest available. If a new version exists the scanner asks the tech if he would like to upgrade to the latest version. Sounds pretty easy, in fact the tech told me I could come in any time and he would upgrade it for me...

I just called my dealer to make an appointment to get an oil change and told them about the reflash and they said that they don't have the new code and don't even know about it. They said Ford hasn't told them anything about it. He said that when I bring the truck in for an oil change he can put my VIN into the system and see if there is an update for it. Is this a bunch of BS that they are feeding me or what? They said that he's talked to 4 other people recently that have mentioned this website and the reflash. Should I call another Ford dealer in my area or push this issue further with my current dealer?

just a few thoughts
G Day, i'm in australia, ford started useing the drive by wire here about two years back.
i'm waiting for my new little truck with 5.4 drive by wire.
so no first hand info yet, just thought i'd ad a few points.
first the modern motor has to get past ever tougher imission laws. when you run a motor as lean as possible, it is not always a good thing to be able to floor the gas, as if motor is at low rev's can hammer crank bearings. so this pre programed throtle help them get by and know basically how this motor will be driven at low speeds, ( if you get my drift ). i watch a friend do fuel and ignition maps on EFI V8 race car motors out here. real interesting. he can even move a Torque curve around and take Torque Dips out just controling how much gas injector lets in and advance or retard timing of spark. this drive by wire can all work in with this.
with the 5.4 in this little truck, when i test drove one it was having traction problem LOL. you can look at the little truck ( we call them UTE's ) at www.ford.com.au click virtual showroom then commercial vehicals then falcon ute, they call the 5.4 eather 220KW Barra or 260KW barra or 290KW boss. the KW is kilowats its a different way to measure HP 220KW= around295HP the 220KW motor uses 24 valve single over head cam, the 260KW and the 290KW use 32 valve twin overhead cams with real high intake manifolds.
sorry for long post.

G'day Lakes.....and welcome to FTE......
WOW.....wouldn't it be nice if we Americans could have your Ford/Australia 260 KW and 290 KW, 32 valve, DOHC engines for our 2004 F-150's?!?!?! I'd just love to get my hands on one of those 290 KW "BOSS" engines for my truck....
Me thinks that would be the end of all this "HEMI" crap we have to put up with in Dodge's truck and sport utility magazine and television ads.....
Hope you enjoy your new truck as much as I am enjoying mine...

reprogramed
Screw, gave me the engine fail safe mode, followed by the engine light today. Took it to my local ford dealer and asked them to flash the pcm. He told me that there are no flash updates for the 2004 150. I just looked at him, gave him my key and said just fix it then. About 4 hours later he called and said that there was a new flash, and seems to have fixed the problem. So just because a service writer at the dealer says there is nothing available doesn't necessarily mean so. I can tell you I do notice a difference with the touchiness of the gas pedal now. Before I had a really hard time reversing my truck into my garagage. Now the pedal is more responsive to a lighter touch, much more smoother. As far as gas mileage goes, My display showed 15.4 litres/100kms before the flash. I have reset the display so I will have to get back on whether or not it gets better gas mileage.
