We painted the engine the same color as the paint we found buried underneath the thick layer of grease. We painted the whole engine black with the exception of the valve color, which is Ford Red (a.k.a. Orange), from a spray can.
While I'm obviously not going to go and change the color now, is there any reason these colors wouldn't be correct? My dealer brochure shows the engines as black with gray valve colors. I've seen cars and trucks with 223s in them for sale on Ebay, etc., and among them there were several different engine colors. Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen any others painted like mine. Thoughts?
The brochures used the gray valve covers since 1958..... You used the correct colors my friend! Thank god you didn't do all red or ford blue as its way tacky. Engine looks real good. -4speed
I was a little bit worried since I've seen a ton of cars and trucks with the entire engine painted blue, and sometimes even green. For some reason my dad thought the whole thing was supposed to be orange, but luckily we stuck with the colors we found under the grease.
Col, I'm in the fine state of Delaware, but come sunday I'll look some info up. Where exactly did you learn of this color? I have only gone on advice and crummy old motor's to determine the original color. I've never seen this pewter color, so it must be mercury? More info please. -4speed
I found some old posts here from some time ago from a couple of M-100 owners, but haven't been able to get a response from either of them.
Most not be around anymore.
