Bob,
The last time I had a vehicle with new bumpers (29 Ford), I painted the backs of them with flat black paint. It's a personal choice, but I thought it looked pretty good. The best thing you can do for chrome is keep a good coat of wax on it. Chrome likes rubbing and hates inattention...good luck.

Bumper treatment
Why not paint the back side of your bumpers the same color as the exterior paint color on your truck, or paint it a contrasting color that would complement the exterior paint. Also something that would look good is say a pair of moon eyes or a smiley face of some sort, or may be a cartoon character on the very end of each bumper on the back side. If you don't want a figure painted on the back side, consider pin striping. On my truck you can see these areas of the bumper clearly. This kind of attention to detail is what wins awards at shows.

I suggest painting them silver. I have seen many painted black, and it is OK, but plain silver does not catch the eye and will work well to prevent rust. I use blue majic on my chrome. It is easy and works well. The tub is 10-12 dollars and lasts for a long time. My Fairlane bumpers are 11 years old and look great! Good luck, John
