223 engine color question

223 engine color question

As I was working on cleaning the engine in My '59, I noticed that the block was black in color. Valve cover is Ford red. Were the 223 blocks painted black from the factory, with red valve covers?

Sounds correct, my '59 also has a black block with red/orange valve cover and air cleaner. I know it to be the original engine in this truck.
