1995 Explorer Sport....For years now I have had a problem with the windshield washer switch on my turn signal (it started right after the warranty ran out). I usually have to fiddle with the control for a minute or two (push it 10 or 12 times) before it gives any juice to my windshield. I finally got tired of it and I took the switch apart last night. I bent the contacts a little so that they would make better contact and then reassembled. I pushed the button and had a tremendous feeling of accomplishment when the fluid splashed my windshield on the first gentle push. However.....I gave it 7 or 8 more pushes in jubilation and now it is back to its original condition. My question is this, will a new switch help? Or is there some other solution that you any of you guru's recommend?
Thanks much for any help you can offer. This forum is a great tool.
Cleaning it and bending the contacts should last awhile. Eventually you may need to get a new MFS but I'd hold off as long as your fix is working. Last I checked they were about $60 at the Ford dealer. If you start having problems with other things like turn signals, windshield washers, headlights and four way flashers it may indicate time for a new switch.
Thanks for the info. It seems like my problem is in the button end of the turn signal. Isn't the MFS located on the steering column? If so, will replacing the MFS take care of my problem in the button on the end of the turn signal??? Thanks for any info.
