Hi all, I was wondering: Is possible change a standar lifter by a roller lifter??? I'll some more mods??? it will work with same cam?? I have hear it will give a bit more power...
You'll have to have a cam custom made for roller lifters. In order to get this done someone must be producing roller cam blanks for the 300, which I don't think anyone is. You'll also need better valvesprings, shorter push rods, and a special distributor gear. Roller lifters from a 302 should work since the regular lifter is the same as a 302. Roller lifters won't work on a regular cam.
The main advantage of roller lifters is the cam can have a much longer duration. Since there isn't a sharp edge to worry about on the lifter, the ramp up and down can be very steep, so the duration at max lift can be much longer. A regular tappet style cam is actually tapered a little, to force the lifter to rotate and wear evenly. If you use a roller against that, you will wear the cam and roller out very quickly, and you will not see any of the benefits of a roller cam.
I believe Superior makes custom roller cams for the 300-6 also. I haven't checked the spacing of the lifters, but I don't think that 302 lifters will work without making custom tie plates.
