i built a 410 recently. my pistons came from gessford machine in hastings nebraska. im checking into what they were exacly. i know they were keith blacks, and they ran 10:1 comprssion. ill let you know what i find
It was the mercury division, IIRC, that developed the 3.98 stroke crank. Merc was looking for some extra torque to push around the heavy luxury barges of the day. The 410 FE they tested made a nice 80-100 lbs more than a similar 390 engine. It is excellent for pickup truckin' . DF, over at his father's house
ok ...When i go to buy stock replacement 410 pistons the description reads...
"Set of 8 Sealed Power cast aluminum pistons for Ford 410 1966-67. Recessed head .097" deep x 2.620" diameter with 4-valve relief. Compression ratio 8.2:1. Compression distance 1.660". Ring dimensions 5/64 3/32 3/16. Press pins included."
why is the compression 8.2:1...i thought stock was 10.5:1 on the 410 ?
The description says 8.2 because these pistons are frequently used in the 390 pickup truck engines, and Ford claimed 8.2. In a 410 they give something just over 10, and in a 390, they really only give you something just under 8. DF at his Dad's place
