weight is not really a big issue with high torque motors. If you back it up with a great tranny and rear end you will not loose as much. Also the type of rear differential set-up you use will determine how well it'll run off a line. Run some thoughts and builds by a local engine shop and see what they have to say...they may have some tricks up their sleeves. Like with my bros motor, the guys in the shop had their secrets and they worked. They helped him set it up like a mighty mouse stock car engine. 
Ya know there is an 11 second 79 Bronco that exists and it's not exactly the lightest truck either. At least ya know it'll get good traction off the line

I don't remember where I saw it, but I have seen some wicked fast diesel trucks... They don't have the top speed that a lightning does, but they take off like no other. I'd suggest doing a little research on diesel racing... my $0.02
