Well Hoss, over in the Dodge group, you're on record as claiming you like the Ford body better than the Dodge - and even said a Ford body with a Cummins engine would be YOUR choice - and HERE, you are now saying it doesn't matter?
Which is it? If YOU didn't buy a Dodge for what YOU considered a better engine, then why DID you buy one?
Once you get THAT figured out, maybe you will ALSO figure out WHY it "matters"...

I don't deny that. The Cummins is what I wanted because I think it is a better engine. THAT is why I bought a Dodge. Other people think the PSD is better. That's why they buy a Ford. I think Ford makes a better truck, but Dodge has the better engine. That's my personal opinion...and other people have different opinions (even though they're obviously wrong).
Had you read the rest of my post above, you would have seen that my point was...and continues to be...that if I'm happy with my truck and you're happy with your truck then why does it matter which is better...or why does it matter what everybody else thinks? If you like your truck, keep it. If you like something else better and can afford it, get it. It's really pretty simple....even for a dumb Aggie like me.
I agree !!!! I own a 99 ram cummins w/90k on her and had tranny work done once around 60k. I would love to own another ford right now but i'm tickled over the cummins. Ford makes a better truck but til they make a better diesel, i'll have to suffer with my dodge. I'm waiting til Ford straightens out their problem on 6.0, glad you have this forum to get some insight. I would be really upset if i would have purchased another ford to find out that i was in the shop more and they can't find a fix these problems right now. Thanks again for your honest opinions and stats.
Well Ford and International are doing everything that they can in an attempt to straighten out the 6.0L. If everyone will remember back to 94 the 7.3 had a lot of issues then too. They were all straightened out and everyone loved those engines, the same will happen with the 6.0.
As for who is better Cummins I-6 or International V-8, well lets look what these engines were designed for. The international is a designed to work primarily in the F-250 and F-350 as well as the school buses, that is why the Ford has such a power advantage. However in the School buses it makes less power and more torque at lower rpms than compared to the Ford aplication. If you compare the numbers of the 6.0 and the 5.9 on both internationals websites and cummins you see that the engines are very similar.
On one final note Cummins almost lost the diesel contract for Dodge. I think that speaks something of what Daimler-Chrysler was thinking about Cummins. Yep you dodge boys almost got a Mercedes-Benz engine, for better or worse but it almost happened.

Got anything to back this up? Last I checked DC was begging Cummins not to sell their engines to other truck makers...hence the "Cummins engine exclusively for Dodge" contract.
When the Germans first bought chrysler they said they were going to put in one of thier European engines. Most of you guys seem to forget about emissions. Mercedes believed that Cummins could not make emissions and that they were too low on Horsepower.
I dont have any articles or announcement because this was several years ago. This is also why the Cummins got that recent huge horsepower increase, and got quieter.

Yeah right I guess those 2% are all here in Ohio right
theres a guy in my town has a 1995 dodge 2500 regular cab long box 4x4 cummins diesel, hes a farmer and sense he bought the truck new it has pulled big wagons to town evey fall and tractors and anything else u can think of and the truck has 156,000 miles and the first transmition is finally starting to slip a little bit, im a ford man all the way and i have only heard good things about the ford powerstroke 7.3 turbo diesel and there are several in my small home town
It NEVER pays to blow too loud or too hard about the "superiority" of your favorite brand - or the NEXT view you see just MIGHT be of YOUR truck like THIS - 60,000 miles, and a blown $3200 tranny...
This is my Ford lovin', Dodge hating RVing buddy, who was gonna show ME how superior his PS was to my Dodge in pulling our RV's up along the Oregon coast last year - *I* ended up pulling BOTH our fifth wheels into Florence, where we sat waiting for his new tranny to be installed...
He's LOTS calmer about discussing the excellence and "superiority" of his Ford lately...
