the VAST MAJORITY of 6.0s have no problems, take all the posts of people having problems it will come out ot about 25% of the 6.0 owners, the problem is that not many people will say a positvie thing when they are not having problems, but will rant and rave when something goes wrong. Lets not forget the problems DODGE had with the cummins when they first introduced it.

SO, you're saying that *1 in 4* trucks experiencing MAJOR failures is ACCEPTABLE in your opinion? Are you also saying that, knowing that, if you went to a dealer, and he had 4 trucks you liked - and you ALSO knew *1* of them was most likely bad, you still take your chances that the one YOU choose WON'T be the bad one?
THAT'S worse odds than Russian Roulette - wonder if you play that too?

Very few problems with the Cummins - LOTS of problems with the useless automatic trannies and a lot of manuals as well...
THOSE types of common failures is what gave rise to a number of Dodge groups that still exist today - and their goal is NOT to hide or defend failures and poor engineering on Diamler-Chryslers part, but to EXPOSE them, give owners a common meeting place to exchange info on problems, and FIND SOLUTIONS!
As a result, WE have a NUMBER of outfits manufacturing and selling transmission upgrades that WOULD NOT have been available if we had hid our heads in the sand and pretended there WERE no problems! - or criticized those coming into our groups with angry stories about their problems...
The tranny problems have essentially disappeared, but others crop up from time to time - and instead of denying them and pretending they don't exist, we're still discussing them openly and freely - and still finding needed solutions...
There's a MORAL in there somewhere - see if you can figure it out...
agreed... no problems w/ the Cummins... it was a tried/true design long before Dodge put it in their POS trucks!!
I wish Ford would put a real diesel in their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks... heck, they put the 5.9B in their F650 and bigger... why not in the smaller trucks? if it's good enough for a 2 1/2 ton Ford, it's good enough for a 3/4-1 ton Dodge!
I'm a Ford guy... of the ~30 cars I've owned in my 25yrs, only owned three that were non-Ford! I think Ford makes a better truck than Dodge, BUT it's so much better to overcome the lack of a decent engine... I've got buddies who've had 7.3 Powerstrokes, and they're decent engines, but they simply DO NOT stack up against the 5.9 B series Cummins!! usable torque, fuel consumption, simplicity of maintanence, cost of modification, etc. etc.
now, give me about a '99-'01 F350 w/ a 12v 5.9B/NV4500 in it and I'm in heaven, but I'd rather drove/own/operate/maintain a 10yr old Dodge w/ a Cummins than a 2yr old Ford w/ a Navistar!!!

This has the new 6.0 and durmax. I kinda like the way the other pic was taken but this is the only one I have of the 6.0 and 6.6
The reason for the offset on the bottom of the Cummins rod is so that the engine can be rebuilt while in the truck. Sense the engine was made for smaller trucks this makes it easyer to get around the frame rails to get to the engine as in bugger trucks its not that big of a deal.
The size difference between the internal components, plus the fact the Cummins has an EXTREMELY heavy-built crankshaft - and a main bearing support for EVERY rod/cylinder, doesn't really come into play until you start really pushing both engines - and start increasing power levels up past 450 HP or so, and the engine mileage creeps up beyond 300 thousand miles - THEN those differences start getting REAL important...

Maybe not...but it still means the Cummins is stronger.

how many people are making 500+hp and 1400+lbs torque w/ them?
