Hey anyone of you guys had any problems with your V-10 idle surging? I have dropped about 400.00 so far and my dealer and myself cant seem to find out why. Anybody have any trouble with the computer in this truck? Its a 1999 F-350 sd. Auto trans 2 wheel drive. Its sounds cool, but at the stoplights it wants to stall. Thanks,Jamie
The Ford place replaced a cracked pcv elbow and the mass air sensor. I replaced the dfp sensor as well. It runs great after you get it off idle. It sounds like a awesome cammed big block. But it is getting worse. Jamie
Hey thanks guys I'll try it. By the way I'm also rebuilding a 1968 f-100 that my grandpa bought new and gave to me when I was 14. I drove it everday untill 1988 when I bought a new short wide 4x4 Ford. Now its time to rebuild the 68. I'm thinking of letting my oldest son drive it when he's 16 kinda keep the tradition going. Any help with parts would be helpfull. Jamie
If you locate the air intake system you'll see 2 smaller rubber hoses that lead to the back of the engine. The larger of the 2(prolly an inch or so in diameter) goes to the IAC. It is located on the back of the intake manifold behind the throttle body. The IAC controls the amout of air needed to idle the engine. Remember the throttle valve is closed at idle so this valve controls the idle air mixture. Should cost ya about $65-$80. It will not throw a CEL code when it acts up. Pull off the rubber hose, unplug the wire harness and remove 2 bolts.(don't drop them) Pretty easy really just hard to reach. There is a gasket too so be carefull not to tear it.(or just buy a new one while your at the dealer) There is a picture of the IAC in the Superduty FAQ section.
Mine will barely idle if it's been sitting a while (a few days) without being ran. Just yesterday I started it for the first time in 4 days. Started then idle went to about 500 RPM and I could feel the motor and body shake (idle was extremely rough) - Give it a little gas and all is OK - I have no idea, but it's done that since brand new and I only have 34K on it now (2002). oh well, I'm not too worried - I will be selling her in about 3 months for a new 05...
Mine had a bad idel but it ran fine and it turned out to be a coil. With so much electronic dodads today a lot of things could be wrong.
I would try and find a better dealer of mech because at 400 in it already you could spend a ton more to find out it is a leaking .10 o-ring.
I'd vote for the IAC, Mine went out at 50,000. Easy fix, but v-10man's right, DON'T DROP THE BOLTS. I didn't but I've heard horror stories. Sound's like the problem though, common with the 5.4's and 6.8's. good luck. Can't believe the dealer couldn't diagnose, WAIT, maybe I can. he he
Thanks alot guys. I have got 120k on this rig and it is a welding truck total wieght is about 13000! Hope no dot guys are reading this. I love the V-10 I just wish it had about 60 or so more ponies. This is the first problem Ive had with it since I got it in 99. Cant wait to have to buy a new one though, anyone heard of a body style change soon? Jamie
