I have a friend that has just bought a 2000 F-350 4x4 V-10 Dually. It is an automatic, 4-Door truck. A very nice looking truck. Since neither he nor I have ever owned a V-10, I was looking for suggestions/experience in adding more HP/Torque.
What is the best add on's for the $$? What I am looking for is a sequential upgrade plan with info on HP/Torque added with each? Anybody have any opinions.... Things like chips, air flow, exhaust, etc.... Also list any Con's of adding the parts.
He often pulls a 4-horse gooseneck with sleeping quarters... I think it is about a 28 ft job....
K&K style drop in air filter.. 3-5 hp $50
Headers 15-30hp $550 +
Cat-back exhaust 10-20hp $300-$500
Computer chip 30hp $300 +
You can mix and match parts, Borla, Gibson for example or go with a full kit like Banks. I wouldn't hold too much stock in manufacturers #'s (except for Banks, they are pretty reliable, close anyway) I don't think I've read any tests that have actually come close to that the companys claim.
Hot Rod magazine did dyno pulls of the Diablo PSD 100 HP chip/exhaust combo and got 97 HP at the wheel. Pretty accurate, IMHO. Diablo gives numbers that are pretty accurate for the majority of the ECU codes.

Using V10man's figures for reference...
Another thing to remember is that these "gains" aren't necessarily cumulative. For example, with the above mods, one might think they bought an extra 85HP. In reality, it'd be more like 60-65 HP. This is because the manufacturers install their product on a stock vehicle then quote the highest power gain they see. In reality, once the major power constraints are removed, additional mods have less impact on performance.
Exactly NoMo. I think that is where some folks get confused. They add all these mods then expect tons of power. I added the K&N and cat-back first and saw no increase at all. It wasn't until I added the headers that I actually "felt" any gains.

Mike at five star tuning told me to buy one of his programs, get some free flowing mufflers and call it good. I thought about doing this and adding the k&n intake. Also wanted to add 3:55 or 3:73 gears to increase the fuel mileage. What do all of you think?

I would stick with Mikes tunes and free flowing muffler. I think intakes are way overpriced and not worth the investment. Unless you actually need the extra air flow, which you probably won't. Your truck came factory with 3.73, 4.10, and 4.30 gears. More than likely I'm willing to bet you have 3.73. Going higher in gear ratio probably won't net you much of a mpg gain, and you would lose towing power.

Thanks for the info.
So you believe the 4.10 or 4.30 would be better even on the highway?
Rubber boots connect the coil to the spark plug (theres a spring under that boot). See blue tube in the photo. They age and crack over time which can cause a misfire. No need to replace the coil until they go bad.
