Yes, it is legal in TX to have a straightpipe. The only thing they can do is a visual inspection. Remember, the turbo is a muffler of sorts.

what do you mean by only a visual inspection? If they see the pipe and no muffler, they can do nothing?

A visual inspection to make sure the exhaust system is not falling apart. I'm running a straightpipe and had no problems with inspection in TX.

Does anybody off hand know about exhaust laws in Georgia and Pennsylvania? I'm living in Ga. right now but will be moving to Pa. by years end. I'm considering doing the straight pipe but of course don't want to screw myself come inspection time.

PA - straight pipe is ok!

I have a full 4" turbo-back exhaust straight piped and I get my truck inspected at the Ford dealer!! No Problems!

Thanks Cat. I just realized that Georgia doesn't do inspections so I should be A-Ok

Well that's just it, I don't think that it would be economically feasable. The hot rod PSD market segment is just too small for the big time header companies to bother with, so that leaves the (relatively) small diesel tuner shops trying to mass produce what would essentially be a one off custom. Sure it's doable, and somebody probably will eventually, but I'd bet they will be prohibitively expensive for most of us regular working class stiffs.

As far as overspeeding the turbo....dunno. I would guess most likely not since they aren't adding any more fuel, just squeezing that last little bit out for the guy (or gal) that has everything.
