Has anyone tried to paint your intercooler tubes? I have been thinking about painting mine or anodizing them. Just wondered if anyone has done this and how well the paint holds up?
Don't know about paint, but work with alot of anodized parts at work, can garuntee that the anodization will not come off due to heat, a lot of our parts are +200 C range. Cost and time may play a major part. Never thought about the IC tubes before though. I would go anodized if I where to do it, like maybe a brilliant red and paint the powerstrock label above the fuel filter red as well, that would get some more cool points...

Thanks. Not sure what the price would be to have them anodized and dyed. Don't mind being without the truck for a day or two. Any suggestions on who to contact to see what the price would run? And how long it would take? I have read some articles on making your own anodizing line at home but seems like a lot of trouble to just do a few parts, or would I be able to stop myself from anodizing and dying every part I can......scary.....
Well from what I know, you hang the part in a acid bath, add the color of dye, then hood a couple of probes from a power supply to the tank and top of hanger and it is supposed to react with it.
What's a job shop plater? And if I am looking for him in the phone book, what am I looking for?
Nuke, I've seen the CAC tubes powder coated...sharp!
Just do a search under yahoo for your area. type in anodizing for the search and should bring up plating shops. These guys do anodizing, electroplating, etc. I have just never priced a small job like this through one of them. Dont know if they like the little guys or just interested in big productions runs. I will find out.

Look under electroplating or plating or anodizing. A job shop is a shop that will usually take in any job no matter how small, but often there may be a minimum charge. I don't do anodizing, but you should find someone to do it for a reasonable charge.
Finally Got Around To Trying Something. I Used High Temp Paint, Ford Blue Of Course, And Shot The Drivers Side Intercooler Tube And The Tymar Filter Connection Tube. Let Me Know What You Think. The Photos Are In My Gallery.
Nuke - that looks good! I was thinking about doing something like that too to make the under hood a little different. What kind of surface prep did you do? My intercooler pipes seem kind-of rough where they are bent - like where they were clamped in the bender or something and would take a lot of sanding to make a nice finish with paint. Wasn't sure if it would be ok to sand that much on something with internal pressure though I guess it wouldn't really weaken it enough to be a problem??
Wouldn't painting the CAC hurt the effiency of it? I mean, paint would be like adding insulation, and hurting the thermal conductivity, and if my thinking is right the intake air would be higher than an unpainted CAC. Just a thought.

All I did was clean the tubes really well with a degreaser, then wiped them down with a damp rag( rubbing alcohol ). Shot the tubes with 2 coats and let it dry for about an hour before re-installing. I will check the tubes every week to see how they hold up to the heat from the engine and when I wash the engine compartment. I think I am going to shoot the cover over the fuel filter housing with blue as well and then dress all the hoses and couplings with an aftermarket dress kit in blue and silver. Sounds a little too dressy but I like my engine to shine when I open that hood up and show that monster off.....
