Does anyone know if i can hook up an amp to a Ford factory stereo that doesnt have any RCA outputs. The stereo is used in fords from 83'- early 90's. Can anyone help me. Thanks
You can tap into existing speaker wires (like the left rear, as I did) without splicing by using "squeeze connectors." They sell 'em at Radio Shack and other nerd stores. You'll also have to buy a Line Output Converter, which will convert the speaker wires' high-output signal to a low-output signal that the amp can handle. Weird things will occur if you run a high-output signal to the amp.
You can purchase the adapter at a circuit city or best buy for $20-$25. I am currently using the same setup. There is no way you can tie the coaxile cable into your factory speaker wires and get a quality sound, if any at all.
What will happen if i just hook the wires straight to the amp without the converter?
What happened with mine (an older amp) was that if I started the truck with the amp turned on, which was usually the case, it wouldn't work no matter what I did, but if I started the truck with it turned off, and then turned it on, it would work most of the time but occasionally cut out or start making an awful buzzing sound. Also, it sounded a lot worse than it does with the line output converter. (Stereo shops sell them also.)
The quickest fix to the problem is just to get a new stereo and you will have more bass and it will sound alot better than any factory crap.
The only thing that is crap is not having one at all. Like I said, I am using the same setup and mine hits harder and sounds deeper than many expensive aftermarket head units. It would be the quickest way but not at a cheap price for those who have other expenses too.
