Cool Oh what the?

Why is there two cat converters on my Ranger? Does the 2nd one ever have a purpose besides aiding in robbing power? Can I safely remove the 2nd one without messing anything up with the computer or anything?

It is designed to drop emissions levels more. As long as their is no O2 sensor after the second cat, and as long as you take it off in a manner that you can put it back on for your smog test, you should be fine.

Ok. The O2 sensors are on the downpipe right off the manifolds. I find it humorous that you say "smog test" when I live in Arkansas!

i wouldnt mind taking mine off either, but next year i am going to college. i think Raleigh, NC as emissions testing. i know they dont here, but i dont want to risk it there. if you find a way to take it off so that you can easily replace it, let me know. Im all for more power!!

Sorry...but my whole life I have had to deal with the worst, most strict emissions testing in the world...California. I'm so happy I bought my truck out of state. It doesn't have to meet California emissions standards anymore. Woo! Still have to smog it every two years though...

Modern cats are very free flowing; you will probably notice no difference whatsoever. Unless your cat is somehow becomming clogged, I'd leave it alone (I'm not a greenie either, lol). On some vehicles you can actually lose power by removing the cat as some backpressure is actually needed.
