i have a 1992 ford explorer. the rear anti lock light has been coming on recently . i havent noticed any malfunction in the use of the breaks yet, although i just noticed this recently. does anyone know what the problem may be . im not sure if this is a major prblem, or something minor .
i have a friend whos ranger was doing the same thing and we looked at the brakes and it all seemed fine,we figured maybe it was some kind of damged sensor or a malfunctioning sensor.........have it looked at if you dont feel comftorable with it being on though.
To begin the process of correcting the problem, you first need to pull the code(s) for the RABS. There should be info on how to do this in the Explorer forum but if not the sticky in the Ranger forum most likely covers this. The code(s) will steer you in the direction of the problem and will help prevent you from fixing this by the "hit and miss/guessing" method.
Locate the RABS diagnostic connector (orange/black wireon the main wire hareness under the drivers side dash right on to of the back side of the wheel well) and attach a jumper wire to it and momentarily (1 to 2 seconds) ground it to the chassis.
2.
Quickly remove the ground. When the ground is made and then removed, the RABS light will begin to flash.
3.
The code consists of a number of short flashes and ends with a long flash. Count the short flashes and include the following long flash in the count to obtain the code number. Example 3 short flashes and one long flash indicated Code No. 4. The code will continue until the ignition is turned OFF. Refer to the flashcode diagnosis charts for further instructions.
