Interior lighting question?

Are the interior lights supposed to come on when the rear hatch is opened? I'm also having the issue of the lock actuator not working on my rear hatch, but that is another problem that is well documented.

Also, I have noticed that on the front doors there are red interior lights that come on when open. The rear red lights do not come on for me. Are there lights in the rear doors? Is this associated with the rear hatch lighting?

Thanks for any help.

I'm almost sure they are supposed to come on when the hatch is open, it's one of those things you dont think about until someone asks.

Do you mean the lights on the doors themselves? There are no lights on the rear doors, just reflectors.
I was just in Omaha, nice place, we hit the the zoo and visited the wifes family.
Hope this helps.

My interior lights come on with the rear hatch open. Now the light right above on mine has three settings, off, middle is on with the interior lights when doors open and all the way is just plain ole on. Mine is an 01 Limited.

Sounds like you don't have the right reflector in your front door to me. It should be red and clear. When the door is open the clear part should light up.

Only the front doors have lights in them. The back doors only have a red reflector.

This is what I was thinking, but didn't take a close look to see if there were lights or wiring.

On another note, I would rather there be lights in the rear doors for when kids are getting in or out. This will have to be a future mod.

Here's a walk through for this mod. Always makes it easier when there's instructions.

Thanks, that will work great.

Now back to the hatch lighting problem. Where do I begin troubleshooting why the interior lighting won't come on when the rear hatch is open?

The backup sensing system does not work either. I havent got around to it but from research I thought this problem was assoiated with the speaker going bad.

Now I'm wondering if the previous owner pulled a fuse that disabled multiple things. The rear hatch does have play when it is shut. Enough play that I could see the lights possibly flickering on and off over bumps. Or maybe he wanted the backup sensing system disable and this affected the lights.

Is there a fuse that these items share?

I would make sure the bulbs aren't burnt out first. I'm on my phone now but will try to find out which fuse is for the lights when I get home.

I put a set of these led strips from autozone here under my door. They have 2 of the same kind of strips. The one I bought has a sticker on it showing like 80% brighter!!! I hooked them into the lighting circuit. They work when the doors open. They are very bright. And I mean VERY. I'll see if I can get a night pic tonight.

I just walked out and took these. They are taken with no other lights from the house. The driveway is pitch black except for the truck.
