You may want to familiarize yourself with the dreaded "CACKLE" that has long troubled the POWERSTROKE, and where I'm at you pay at least 20 cents a gallon more for diesel and have to search to find it. By the way I know many POWERSTROKE owners that aren't able to get better than 16mpg regardless of conditions I hope your lucky enough to have your numbers hold up.
Well said browntrout. Although the PSD is a great engine, it is not trouble free. Nor is it cost effective for some. There are many good attributes to both the V10 and PSD. They will both pull the house and everything in it, perhaps at a little different economy, but the important thing to remember is that they are part of the Ford Superduty line which has proven itself time and time again. Most of the people I talk with, whether PSD owners or V10ers, love their truck. And this speaks for itself.
I agree BigV-10, although I have seen a few people complaining on this site and others, I have yet to speak with someone in person that hasn't loved their Super-Duty. I know Chevy claims that there going to take the market back this year, but time will tell. I know Chevy's claim to fame has been a great power vs economy ratio, but I gurantee there isn't one of the 8.1 liter Chevy's getting as good as mileage as I am and they only make about 10 more horsepower and no more foot Lbs of Torque. I know Ford hasn't been dominating the market just because it look's good.
I am hoping you have gotten your truck out of the shop after the little mishap. Are your mileage numbers still holding up? They were pretty darn good your last post...
Have you had an opportunity to tow anything yet? Still curious.
I noticed some elevation numbers in one of your last posts, where are you from? Have you noticed any difference in power at higher altitudes?
Look forward to your next report.

From Utah and my truck hasn't been driven under 4,000 feet elevation and probably won't anytime soon because most places we travel in our truck are the same or higher.
I checked my mileage on a 300 mile highway trip last week. I only got 14, but I was driving 70-75 and the roads were bad.
I had to pull my travel trailer around town a bit to get it winterized and stored. I wasn't climbing any significant hill's, but I think this V-10 will outperform the 460 I pulled my trailer with while waiting for this truck to be delivered. The only thing I'll be towing through the winter is a two place snowmobile trailer and that's not really heavy enough to count. I won't know how it really pull's until next spring. The noise I had complained about is disappearing or I'm not paying as much attention to it. Loved every minute of it so far.
Thanks for the info. Snowmobiles, huh? Sounds fun! What kind of mileage did you get with that 460? Was that in an older Ford heavy duty? I imagine the V10 will out perform the 460 from all I have heard. And yes, I do have a truck on order. I should get it in January sometime. The beast would be...F250 156" 4x4 CC V10 Lariat 3.73 auto etc...etc...I will be trading in a '95 F150 5.8 4x4 supercab. It has been a great truck, but somehow I want more...ya know?
