Sorry it took a while been ugly at work last few days,
I've put about 400 miles on it around town and on the freeway and love it. It drives and rides better than any previous truck I've owned. My only complaint thus far is how loud the Firestone All-Terrain tires are. Looking back I would have just taken the stock tires and then dumped them and bought a different brand. Just waiting now to get it broke in so I can hook up my trailer and see how it tow's. Got any questions or if I can help drop me an E-mail eandeyoung(No Email Addresses In Posts!).
Good to hear from you! Also glad to hear all is well with the new Superduty. I will be very interested in your trailer pulling results. I am ordering one almost identical to yours this week. The dealer says I may have it by late December. Keep me posted on your truck's performance. Oh, do you have any pictures of your new toy yet that you can post? I would love to see it.
I'm glad your happy with your new truck. I,m
hoping to get mine within the next 2 weeks. How
long after the build date did it take to get
your truck? My build date is between Oct. 9 and
Oct. 16 with a delivery date between Oct.23 and
Oct. 30 I'm hoping it doesn't take that long.
If that is your only complaint ( that you have loud tires ) I would be very satisfied! I ordered the standard tires with intentions of exchanging them with Goodyear's 305/70R16 Wranger ATS before I even drive of the lot. I to would be interested
in your towing results and any information worth
writing about during your break-in period.
No flutter, the motor purs smoooooth as can be and seems to have a lot of spunk.
I never got a build date, but it was shipped from Kentucky on 9-20 and arrived on the dealer's lot in Utah on 9-29.
Other good news, the only reason I was able to complain about the tire noise is because the rest of the truck is so quiet. No squeaks, rattles or anything. I've been very impressed. I had several noises in my 98 explorer I never could track down.
I have a brand new F350 Crew Cab V10 Long Bed Lariat and I have the dreaded "exhaust flutter". As I accelerate I hear the flutter, sounds like an exhaust leak but from what I hear it has to do with the way the exhaust is setup. I just got back from the dealer today and they said that at this time Ford is no doing anything about it but they are reviewing the issue. The Technical Manager said the he has no doubts that Ford will fix this.
This week wiil be the the Black Orca's 1st birthday. I have yet to here it slap a piston nor utter a flutter. It's got close to 16,000 miles and the only problem was the front cup holder broke (now how did that happen?) and was replaced with the new updated model that is a great improvement. I was a strong General Motors man and put over 250,000 on my last Silverado that my brother-in-law still drives to work but Ford's got me now. This is my second one (#2 son has the `97 F-150 now) and they have both been great trucks.
I have some very good news. I had long conversations with my dealer yesterday. I spoke with the head service guy at my dealer. He put me in touch with the Ford Field Rep. She got in touch with her Manager. They have a contact in Ford Engineering. That person said that they were very close to making the new "Y" pipe available. The new pipe is ready and they are just waiting for the legal stuff to go thru with respect to correcting and updating a new Technical Service Bulletin that will be going out to everyone. Well, that Engineering contact gave them a part #. My dealer plugged that part # into the system and he was able to order it. They should have it by next week and will be installed on my truck. They said that this is a 2001 part number and will be put on the new 2001 trucks.
The dealer just called me, they have the part in and I am dropping my car off on Monday at 7am! I will get and post the part # then. He told me that it looks the same as the old one except for that some flange is smaller
Guys, the part # for the new Y pipe: 1C3Z5246AA
He said you will also need a "nut kit" and a new gasket but that info should come up when you plug in the new part #. He said that visually it looks a lot different. I have not seen it yet but he said that the crazy bend is gone!
Don't know how those other posts got run into this one, but back to the topic.
Just checked my highway mileage on my V-10 with 3.73ls auto. Travled about 100 miles, started at about 4600 feet and climbed to 6800 feet at 60-65 mph with a full tank of gas. I drove it very easy not really accelerating to pass or getting into the throttle.
Results: 16 to 17 mpg yes it's true and it was probably closer to 17. I have been getting 11-13 around town. Needless to say I'm thrilled let's hope these numbers hold up, if they do I'll never regret not paying 4,200 more for a Powerstroke.
It was Chevron 88 octane(in my area you have to choose between 85 or 88) and I have the XLT so I was using fuel consumption and miles traveled. Haven't had a chance to pull my travel trailer around yet, My wife hit a pole in a parking terrace two weeks ago and it's been in the shop getting fixed for the last week. I'm just getting to the point where I can talk about it without raising my blood pressure 20 points.
i HAVE THE BIG PSD AND ADVISE YOU TO NOT BUY THE V10 UNLESS YOU CAN LIVE WITH THE TERRRIBLE GAS MILIAGE <9 AND 12>. THE DEISEL SOUNDS BETTER AND I JUST BROKE MINE IN AND DROVE TX TO MI ..1500 MILES AND I GOT 19.5555 AND 20.4444 AT 78 MPH. THE V10 SOUNDS LIKE A SICK 6 CYLINDER AND IF YOU KEEP READING THIS SITE YOU WILL SOON FIND OUT THAT THE GASSERS ARE HATING LIFE WITH THIER NEW V10
