The soupbowl, as it is referred to, is a "bowl-like" contraption on the top section of the airbreather of a non-turbo diesel. Since you have a turbo on your 7.3, you don't have to worry about the soupbowl.
Thanks to the tree huggers and the legislators in WASHINGTON any vehicle has to be QUIET from the factory- exhaust to air cleaner- but if you still live in a FREE state you can axe the garbage and let the motor do what it does best- breathe (plus stuff a little more in with the turbo is cool too)
Pul the lid on your breather....the lid!!
See the bowl that mnts from under the top to the intake port.
Cut it off smooth with a small grinder & its like removing a gag from a mouth,Intake is open & You canhear the engine talk

Thats is what I notice in a the next 12 tanks,I just replaced it with nother so my mech. doesn't see it & it dropped immediatley back to lagging & using fuel,Damn wad o crap put there for noise silencing no other reason!!
