I have 2 areas of concern with my 98 Expy 5.4 120K+ :
First, we discovered you can roll the windows up & down after turning off the ignition until you open any door or by turning on the dome light. Is this normal? Anyone try it?
Second, if a door is open with dome light on, when you engage the starter the dome lights click off then back on when it is running and the dome lights do not stay on for more than a second after getting into vehicle and not turning key on. Isn't there some kind of time delay to allow you to get the key in as with many other cars we have had?
Are these 2 items maybe related to a timer somewhere or in the headlight switch??
First compaint is normal. Your truck has a built in timer to allow you to roll up windows without the key. Its for people who forget to roll up the windows before turning off the car. A few other systems work as well, the radio can still play, etc.
Second, your interior lights should stay on to allow time to put the key in, but your description was a little confusing. Can you explain a little further what its doing.
I usually start the vehicle before I close the drivers door, as soon as I engage the starter the interior(dome) lights shut off than turn back on when it is running, all this with the door(any door) open.
Sometimes I enter the vehicle, close the door, than put the key in, as soon as I close the door the dome lights turn off-no delay allowing time to get the key in as with other vehicles we have owned.
All your "keyed" components (radio, wipers, etc) will go out when you turn the key to start. Dome lights, now that they are on a delay circuit, are no exception.
