Delayed Interor Dome Light

Lightbulb Delayed Interor Dome Light

Has anyone heard of a delayed interor light.

Today I stoped my the Ford Dealer to see if the would take the Dome Lense off which they did and we found that the two (2) lights were missing, when I put them in the interor dome light worked. I noticed that turn the swich off one side to the other side the lights would go out, than I put it in the middle and they both stayed on, after a few mintures the dome light went out. I opened the door to see if the dome light would go on which it did, than I closed the door and again the dome light stayed on, after a few mimtures it went out. So I ask the parts man if they had a delay on the Interor Dome Light, they did not think so. What go here?

This is a 1999 Ford Ranger

Here is how it's supposed to work:

Interior Lighting

The interior lighting system consists of the following:

- Map/dome lamp assembly
- Rear-high mount/cargo lamp assembly
- Dimmer switch
- Door open warning switch (located on both the front and rear door latches)
- Engine compartment lamp (if equipped)
- The generic electronic module (GEM)/central timer module (CTM) illuminates the dome/map lamp when any door is open or ajar.

The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry (GEM only) feature is not active, and the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph).

The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 5 km/h (3 mph) and a new door open warning switch signal is received (GEM only).

The system inputs to the GEM/CTM are the door open warning switches (grounded when door is ajar; an open circuit when the door is closed) and the vehicle speed input. (Sinusoid Wave: 0.7V-20V, 2.2 Hz/MPH [1.37 Hz/km/h] [GEM only].)

The system output to the GEM/CTM is the interior lamp relay coil output. (Grounded when activated; open circuit when deactivated.)

The GEM and the CTM control the interior lamps and illuminated entry function with the interior lamp relay.

The panel dimmer switch controls the interior lamps by supplying power to the interior lamps. The battery saver relay supplies power to the panel dimmer switch. When the battery saver function is active, power will not be supplied to the dimmer switch circuit and the panel dimmer switch will not turn on the interior lamps.

The illuminated entry option is another feature which activates the interior lamps.

The GEM illuminates the interior lamps when an unlock signal is received from the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module. The illuminated entry feature will be canceled if:

- 25 seconds have elapsed since the illuminated entry feature was activated and the courtesy lamp feature is not activated.
- If the GEM receives a request from the RAP module (remote transmitter lock button pressed) and the courtesy lamp feature is not activated.
- If the ignition is in the RUN or START position and the courtesy lamp feature is not activated.

The illuminated entry inputs are the RAP illuminated entry request (grounded pulse of varying length) and the ignition switch in the RUN position (battery voltage on both the RUN and RUN/ACC inputs).

The illuminated entry output is the interior lamp relay coil output (grounded when activated; an open circuit when deactivated).

The RAP module sends a signal to the GEM on the illuminated entry request circuit to indicate a request to turn the illuminated entry feature on or off. Circuit 1013 (BR/LG) is normally sent to 12 volts by the GEM.

The GEM and the CTM sleep mode deactivates all outputs to conserve battery power. Sleep mode is activated when the ignition has not entered the RUN or ACC position or 45 minutes has elapsed since the last wake-up input was received. During sleep mode the GEM monitors both front door switches, the ignition switch in the key-in, ACC and RUN positions and the RAP illuminated entry request.

If a change in any of the above inputs occurs while the GEM is asleep, the GEM will wake up and monitor all of its inputs and have the ability to activate any of its outputs.

The battery saver relay controls the interior lamp, under hood lamp, the panel dimmer switch and the interior lamp relay.

The battery saver relay becomes active (relay coil is energized) when the GEM/CTM is in the awake mode, and is deactivated (relay coil is de-energized) in the sleep mode. The battery saver will remain active until the ignition switch is removed from the ACC or RUN position and 45 minutes have passed since the last active input was received (see sleep mode inputs). At that time, the relay will be deactivated and power to the above circuits will terminate.

The battery saver inputs are the GEM/CTM sleep mode inputs.

The battery saver output is the battery saver relay.
