I'm involved in buying tools for F-16 maintenance at (name withheld) AFB where I'm stationed.
We have hundreds of boxes, thousands of tools, and most of our equipment is now Craftsman, at the request of both our mechanics and tool custodians.
"Premium" tool boxes are better, but we destroy them all, so Craftsman is the most cost-effective balance between price and durability. Nobody makes sufficiently durable boxes, so we weld angle-iron carts with industrial casters to fit each box.
The durability of Craftsman hand tools is generally good, though the ratchets are not what they once were.
We can of course afford S***-O*, and still use them for some tools we can't get elsewhere.
We dropped them because their sales rep was worthless, and caused us to actively seek alternatives.
Both our local Sears and an industrial Craftsman dealer are helpful and EAGER for our business.
Off duty I do the same thing. Craftsman is fine until I need a special premium tool, then I buy elsewhere.
The thousands of $$ I save buys more tools and equipment.
i have found craftsman has 2 different ratchets the one almost looks like s-o but works just as well if not better as i find s-o 1/4 and 3/8 tend to slip cm and mac don't . good s-o dealers are out there but where i am we have had many come and go or not want to come into my shop because we are all old techs and don't buy a lot any more. same with boxes cm industrial are just as good as s-o
