Question CRAFTSMAN Tools

Hey there, I am currently trying to build a tool collection. I have chosen to go with CRAFTSMAN tools. I bought a smaller roll-around box last weekend to keep everything. My question is : Are CRAFTSMAN tools really all they're cracked up to be? I cant afford SNAP-ON but I like the garranty on the CRAFTSMAN. I had people tell me that they are no good no more . Can yall tell me before i spend the money?

There is nothing wrong with Craftsman. I have plenty of them and I use them all the time. Not everything with the Craftsman name is wonderful but most are great tools. Some people bash Craftsman and most of those people just like to complain about something.

Well,I bought a Craftsman tool set last fall and haven't had a problem.Maybe I'm too weak to damage them.Occasionally you may find a weak tool, but overall I like them.Your going to get an occasional bad one with any brand I think. The individual pieces can be a little pricy, but their sets are quite reasonable.I like the gurantee also.Never had a problem returning anything.I'v had a lot of craftsman tools over the years.I tend to lose them before I wear them out lol.I like them.

The majority of Craftsman are just as good as any other brand. The great thing is if you ever do have a problem they will replace it without going through the typical BS that you will with most other brands. Atleast that is what I have experinced the very few times that i have had to return them. Can't beat the new laser etched sockets- very helpful when you are on the creeper and under a vehicle for spotting quickly the size needed.

i love craftsman, the best thing about them is that if they break, you take it to the store and get a replacement for free, no questions asked

My grandfather was a heavy machinery mechanic his whole life. All he worked with was Craftsman and New Brittan<sp> tools. Sure he might have one break from time to time, but it was rare.

I have all craftsman tools, some of them I inherited from my grandfather. I had one new socket crack...took it in and was given a new one with only a "Have a nice day" from the salesperson (and I didn't even buy anything that day).

Go craftsman...their new designs are unproven, but the standard stuff is as good as gold in my opinion.

Good luck, no matter who you go with.

I turn em for a living and have for 29 yrs.. Craftsman tools are in my box.. along with many other brands. Never a warranty issue at Sears. I've turned in wrenches and screwdrivers that were OK just looked ugly and got new ones in return... can't beat that!

I have some Craftsman tools that are over forty years old and have been trouble free. When you buy make sure they say "Forged in USA'', I have a set of twelve Craftsman metric wrenches that were made in Japan and a set of six Craftsman pliers and cutters that were made in China. They would not exchange them since they were not broke.

Craftsman went downhill after 1970 so the old tools are "good as gold" . I have found the tools since then have suffered from improper heat treatment, and being out of spec. A tool that breaks at 10pm with a repair to finish to drive to work the next day is not worth any "guarantee". Of course now I have duplicates for most tools so it isn't a real problem.

If you are just starting a collection you cant go wrong with craftsman. They are plenty strong enough for the home mechanic. Some of their stuff is junk, but some of snap-on's stuff is junk too.

What are the interest rates on the credit you get with them?I'm just curious.I know someone at work who is considering opening up an account with them.I heard they are high.
