Gibson Exhaust

Gibson Exhaust
Hi guys I'm new to this forum, but I've been reading alot in the past 2 days and you have answered alot of my questions already.
I have been considering getting a Gibson Exhaust system for my 2002 F-250 SD Reg. Cab 5.4 auto. I think the Extreme Duals would be what I want, but I have a few questions on this.
- I've read that the mounting is not very secure is this true?
- According to PowerUSA.com they only make Extreme Duals for 2wd 5.4's but this would work right?
- Does anyone have this set up on there truck, and do you like them? (I'm going to do this more for the sound factor rather than the performance aspect of it.)
- Would I be better off to just get the Super Flow muffler rather than the complete system, build the rest myself.
Thank you guys so much, also is there a easy way to lift my front end up about 2 or 3 inches without buying a complete lift kit. My truck looks like a 2wd now and I want to change that.
Thanks again guys!

I considered the same Gibson exhaust, I really wanted the stainless, it's big money, but seems like it would be worth it. I wanted duals out behind each rear wheel, the extreem duals have more of a 45* angle on them, not what I wanted at all, the Gibson's are known for being really quiet as well, like not much louder at all, I am not looking for strait pipe loud, just something that sounds good and that people might coment on. I would rather have something like a nice strait through dynomax and have a muffler shop do the rest. Flowmasters don't seems to sound to good on the 5.4s. I would love to hear what others have to say. I also did a exhaust search and asked around and Gibson is the only one that has a dual out sides exhaust (besides Borla, that's BIG money!) Any ideas or recomendations?

I had a Gibson on my truck for a while. What a waste of money that was. It was actually quieter than stock, and it lasted all of 2 years before rusting out. I realize it wasn't stainless, but I'd still expect more than 2 years from an exhaust. Do yourself a favor and don't buy a Gibson system.

I have Gibson duals out one side. WAY TO QUIET I was looking for performance and sound. It did seem to help performance. If you walk around the truck with it running you can hear the fan over the exaust. I also bought the SS because I wanted it to last. Flowmasters on the next one I think.

I have the same system as Bordaine, and I agree, it is way too quiet. Mine is a little louder than stock, but not what I was hoping for. When money allows, I will either swap in a Flowmaster muffler or a straight pipe.
When I had the stock exhaust off, I could not resist myself, and I fired up the truck with the exhaust wide open after the cat. Damn, that sounded like a mean V10!!!

I had a full SS system on my 1999 F-150 5.4(1st year 5.4 i think)
I did however have the headers as well so maybe thats why i liked the system.
Mine was a little "throatier" than stock and had a subdued growl.
I thought it was perfect.
Oh, single tip though.
Guys bash Gibsom for being "cheapish" but i didn't think it was that bad.
TRuck got stolen so thats that.
Good luck however you go.

The quality of the Gibson exaust is very good, it fit very well. I put the spare back under the truck and drop it off at the Ziebart place. Over the next copy of weeks I kept smelling what I thought was undercoating burning off the exaust.
NOT
I melted A nice grove in the spare, about 2"wide, 5"long and almost down to the cords. I guess the spare does not clear exaust as directions read.

JohnDeereGuy,
Fitment was fine with my 2002 SD CC 5.4L, but I soon after realized that I could have just got a higher flow muffler to replace the stock one and accomplished the same thing.
As for the Gibson engineering, etc.... it was excellent. But again, that evil hindsight came up and blindsided me after the install (which, by the way, took me only 2 hrs working alone!). After driving it with the new Gibson "Swept Side" aluminized cat-back exh. system, I realized I could have just replaced the muffler and accomplished the same thing. Oh well... live and learn.
Side note: look into the Diablo tranny shifter for the 5.4L auto. I have the "mild" version (check with Kenny here on FTE's "Motorhaven"), but the "race" version would be fine if you're a little younger and a little more "enthusiastic" of a driver than I am. I'm happy with my "mild" version though... and it's affordable ( $40) + installation by a tranny shop.
On edit: check the Gibson website for fitment. Make sure you take the time to double-check what the footnote numbers tell you because they limit the style cat-back you can get with certain trucks. Just a head's up....
Best,
