There is massive talent in the field. There are five or six guys that could be the champ given the dominant car, like Vettel. How long has Webber been out there turning in mid field performances or worse. And then he gets lucky and gets a ride with Red Bull in it's ascention and all of a sudden he's a star. Not like the young German, but he is a star.

ALonso is unlucky. He is always swimming against the current. Two championships driving for driving for Renault, then gets a ride with McLaren when it is running in the shadow of Ferrari. So he gets a ride with Ferrari (after Braun left )about the time that Red Bull comes on (benefitting from Adrian Newey) and Ferrari is not up to the job.

But, Alonso won his (first) two championships during Michael's reign and beat him with a lesser car. I am a real fan of Alonso and I think that he will remain a contender for a long time to come.

I am also a fan of Massa, and I worry that he has really lost his edge since his head injury. Remember he was as quick as Schumacher before.

Both Ferraris went backward on the hard tires.

I'd like to see the tire rule go away. They should be able to choose what works best for them and change them at will.

yep agreed , started out a normal boring race with the pace set by the safety car.

2 hours later , after lots of pictures of wildlife and the never ending water clearing

what a finish , who would have thought Button would have been anywhere near the front ,in 20 laps he came from the back to win on the last lap , Bet Vettle was cursing at the end lol. Shame Shumacher didnt end up on the podium , he did the best driving in years too in my opinion.

Yes, I don't think we have ever seen Button drive with that level of agression. Just too bad he had to take out other contenders in the process, but that was the drive of his life.

I must say that F1 just seems to get better and better.

Is Masa getting his mojo back? He seems more like the pre-knock-in-the-head Masa.

He certainly showed that when the rain comes out - he still has it.

The move he pulled on Kobayashi (who also had a great race) and Webber was impressive.

He definitely seems to. He nearly out-qualified Alonso in this race, and wasn't far off him in Monaco.

Adrian, do you suppose this F1 thread would get more participation in the general automotive forum? Or should we have an open wheel forum?

we will get beat up by the taxi guys NASCAR
Taxi drivers? Really? Ask Sir Jackie Stewart what he thinks of NASCAR. I remember listening to him commentating on his first NASCAR race for ABC.

"Oh my God! They've touched at 200 MPH! They touched each other at 200 MPH!!!" I thought the Wee Scot took a wee in his pants. It was the funniest thing I've ever heard during a race. "And here comes Cale Yarrrrlborrroughhh!!!

I follow F1 and NASCAR. Despite the last two F1 races, the fact remains there is more passing in one NASCAR race than an entire F1 season.

Even though I like F1, the chances of seeing the top three qualifiers on the podium remains 99.999876%.

F1 drivers whine too much. NASCAR drivers whine, too. When F1 drivers bump each other, the fans wait breathlessly as F1 stewards assess a drive through penalty. In NASCAR, the offended party flips the other driver at 180 MPH and the stewards say, "Have at it boys."

In the history of NASCAR, no driver has ever improved his grid position by parking on the track during qualifying. I've seen plenty of TAXI DRIVERS block the road while parking, but never a NASCAR driver!

F1 driver's excuse for not winning: "I didn't get pole."

NASCAR driver's excuse for not winning: "Well, the Southern Jerked Chicken Chevy was doin OK until we messed up our track bar settin' on the second pit stop. Then, it kept gettin' a lil' sideways on the exit of turn three at 190 MPH for the next 200 laps. You just can't draft too good goin' sideways."

When was the last time you saw an F1 car cross the finish line on fire and upside down?

Anybody who derides NASCAR hasn't attended a race. I've been to one NASCAR race. The two English F1 fanatics I was with came way stunned.

I am po'd at the FIA peeps implementing mid season rules changes. If it were a safety issue that would be different.

And what's with the cutting rpm limits? It seems to have helped reliability overall but in my mind F1 is all about pushing the development envelope and this goes the other way.

Being an Alonzo fan, I'm pretty happy right now. I couldn't believe the gap he was able open between him and the RB boys!

Gee, I thought you understood the problem. It doesn't go the other way. Every time any race sanctioning body tries to make the sport cheaper, more money just gets spent in other areas.

The top teams will spend any money to win. What's hard to understand?

More power strokes per second have to add up to more power. Are they limiting power output or money spent? In either case they are limiting the technology involved.

only reason i can see he got that much of a gap was the tires on the RB's were done in...

sad race in my eyes, as its my home ground , Jenson.... , wonder if the lolypop man will keep his job

great start ,mind you , half dry & half wet track , we usually only see this at the bigger circuits like hockenheim or at the asian ones where the weather is so varied.

The simple point you fail to understand is:

ANY LIMITATION ON TECHNOLOGY IN ONE AREA JUST REFOCUSES TECHNOLOGY INTO AN UNREGULATED AREA.

RPM limits, engines per season etc. are attempts to lower costs. They fail because they are not all encompassing regulations. If teams can't touch their engine computers, they'll spend $ millions in wind tunnels to eek out a tenth of a second per lap by blowing exhaust over wings.
