Question what's up with firestone

I own a 2001 excursion with the recalled tires so I stoped by the firestone store by me last night. I was quite surprized to hear that they will only give the steeltex E load tire for exchange and that's it. I told him I was on firestone's web site and they listed other tires that can be exchanged for them also and was told they won't do that. Only firestone steeltex 10 ply. So I walked out and called firestone today on the 800 #. I was told that the store was wrong and the tires listed were all choices I could have. They also gave me 5 other dealers besides firestone that could help me.
Anyone else had this problem with firestone????

Ranbrg01,

Try going to your local Ford dealer. The option they have is to replace with Pirrelli STR's. Thats what I got, rides great too.

I already talked to them but I don't like the tires. The Pirrelli's don't last long with tread wear. The other tire was B F rugged trail t/a , more off road than I need. My Excursion is only 2wd and the Firestone's have lasted 50k so far with lots of tread left. Firestone gave me other tire dealer's in town so I'm going to check with them next.

I just checked with my local L-M dealer and he said that the Pirelli Scorpion AT's were on national backorder with no time frame as to when they will be ready.

I've read that some of you have had good luck with the Scorpions as far as wear goes and the TireRack has good ratings for it. I like the Steeltex's grip in the snow and wear but leary of the replacement.

Should I just get the E Steeltex or wait for the Pirelli's?

Ranbrg01,
I live in the SW corner of Ohio and it took me three Firestone dealers to find one that would let me upgrade to the Revos, for $30/tire. What a great choice. They are great.

Big Sky,
When you look at the Tire Rack reviews you really need to only look at reviews from people that have 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks. You will notice that for the Pirelli's the ratings are split about 50/50 for the heavy trucks. Then look at the Revos and about 90% are positive. You can not compair tires on a small SUV or Mini Truck to what we expect as they are really different tires.
I looked at the BFG ATKO's, the BFG Rugged Trails, the Pirelli Scorpions and the Revos. The Revos had the best rating by far.
Good luck.
Pat

Well, I finally got what I wanted, 285 Revos. A special thanks goes out to "rlh68050" for the information on the MI Firestone dealer. I had an appointment and for $35 a tire (including the spare) they took care of me.

There was almost one mistake. I asked to see the tires before they put them on. When I walked out they had pulled 3 Dueler AT (non-Revo) and one Revo. Luckily I straightened them out and an hour and half later I was on my way. A total of $185.50 including tax.

These tires ride great. Some of the roads in Detoit are as bad as anywhere. The wife and I noticed the Revos seem to absorb much more of a bump comparted to the Firestones. She was spectacle of the whole deal including driving ~200 miles, but was convinced 5 minutes down the road.

I realize these are Load Range D, but the maximum weight is 3,305 lbs at 65 psi. I only tow a 2000 lb. pop-up camper so I should be fine.

Glad I could help. I assume you went to the location on Gratiot ave. in Roseville. Really nice people there. I wouldn't hesitate recomending them to anyone.

Well I have got to say that I really like the Revos, the new Rancho 9000 shocks and the Helwig rear sway bar. We got 3" of wet nasty snow over night and I love the way the X drove in it great starting and stoping! Almost made me want to get the tow chain out and start pulling trucks out of the ditch on the way to work. But I wanted to get in before any more amatures got on the road. It is still backed up on the freeway bigtime. Glad I come in at 6:30 AM Before the idots get out....

Did you guys pay for an alignment when you had your new tires put on? When I got my tires the guy at Firestone told me I needed an alignment, but he didn't have time to do it then and I had to pay for it. He said it was $69 I think. I took it to the dealership today to get the alignment done and it's going to be about the same price. I wouldn't be getting an alignment now if I hadn't just put new tires on the car. I wanted to go ahead and have it done though before I make a travel this coming weekend. I figure if Firestone was supposed to do it when they put the tires on they'll refund me the money I pay the dealership to do it.

Didn't have any problems with the old tires. They had over 66,000 miles on them. I got the truck with 27,000 miles on it in April of 2002. I was looking into replacing the tires when the recall happened luckily.

I had the alignment done today. Would changing the shocks make me need another alignment? The last thing I want to do is mess up new tires.
