The 2000 X I recently purchased has the Steeltex tires but they are load range E. So, if I'm understanding this correctly the tires on my X must have already been replaced? Or is this something I need to check into? The sticker on the drivers door looks like someone tried to peel it off. Can't read the pressures on it.

Not true. The 265 (load range E) Bridgstone Revos are a 10 ply tire, the 285's (load range D) are an 8 ply. Same goes for the BFG's. That being said, the main reason I opted not to increase my tire size is because I tow a very heavy trailer along with alot of cargo in the rear of my Ex. I wanted to ensure that I was giving myself the highest weight rated tire (within reason) for my vehicle. I figured that safely towing my travel trailer with my wife and kids is more important than looking cool with big tires.
Larger tires would be nice, but my X is also a working beast. Hauling the wife, kids and dogs and all the stuff that MUST go along and the trailer.
So I will opt for the E rated 265's. I did find a Firestone dealer here in SW Ohio willing to upgrade.... He was the third dealer I contacted. The first two said no to upgrades. I will be putting the Revo's on tomorrow for $30.00 per tire out of pocket.
Worth every penny to get what I want, not what they want to give me.

Originally posted by rlh68050 Well, the Firestone dealer I went to hooked me up. I now have the 265 Revos and only had to pay $25/tire additional cost. He replaced my spare with one of the free replacements, as I didn't see the need to have a Revo as a spare too. The free replacement is the "new and improved" Steeltex A/T tire with 10 plys and an "E" load range rating.
How would you describe the ride quality in changing from the Steeltex D to the Revos with E? I am assuming this would transmit more bumps to the passangers.

You know, I haven't really driven it a lot since the Revos were installed. I asked my wife what she thought, and I got the answer I expected..."It drives the same". I would expect a little stiffer ride out of the 10 ply E rated Revos, especially since the PSI is set to 45/55 per Fords new recomendations. The "comfort ride" PSI setting of 38/45? is no longer recomended by Ford. I used to switch to the comfort ride setting during the winter when I no longer was towing my travel trailer. I could really tell a differece in the ride, much better with the lower settings.
I called my local ford dealer today and he is going to hook me up. He will replace the tires with what ford wants and after I take delivery of the vehicle, drive it a couple of days then return to him, he will buy back the tires at full price and sell me what I want. BFG AT's any size and I only pay the difference. He told me today that he can actually put on size 315 without a lift by moving the inner rubber piece on the vehicle and it wont bottom out. Does this sound correct? He said he does it all the time???
I will probaly go with a 295 since I have no lift.
I got my Revos put on last night. 265/75/16 load range E. I had to pay 31 bucks a tire though. The Firestone dealer told me not to run my tires soft, and that I should run them at their designated pressure. Ford reccomends 50/55 for ride quality but if you want your tires to last and dont mind a bit harsher ride run E rated tires at 80. You will also get better fuel economy runing the tire harder. My X drives awesome with the tires pumped up. Night and day difference!
MN_Wild,
Wow, 80....
Did the Firestone guy say that or printed from Ford?
I will get my Revos today for $30 extra per tire for the 265/75/R16 Load range E. I am sure I will be happy with the extra $$$ spent. I will check and see what they say about pressure, but 80psi for an unloaded X seems high to me.
Thanks for the update.

Good for you!! I called both local Firestone dealers and one Ford dealer and none of them are willing to put on anything except for the designated replacements...I'm kinda getting grumpy about it because I want Revos!!
Well finally!!! There are 52 Ford dealers and 127 Firestone dealers in the local area and it only took me 9 phone calls to get what I wanted!! 285 Revos for an additional $32/tire. Not sure if that's retail or dealer cost?? I don't do much towing (heavy atleast) and was wondering if the 8 ply 285 would be OK for my needs??? My other concern that the guy mentioned that it would throw off my ABS...any inputs??? I have 285's on my F-150 and it hasn't seemed to affect the brakes at all??
