plugged up screen

Or something plugging up the oil pump pickup screen. When the pump would try to suck up more oil than it could it would starve for oil and result in pressure drop. Put a direct reading guage on there to be sure.

Not sure what year truck you have but if you have the variable pressure sender you can test it with a swing meter type ohm meter and an aircompressor blow gun. Remove the sender, hook up the leads to the sender. (Alligator clips make this easier) Now use the blow gun to simulate oil pressure. Use safety glasses as a little oil will try to get in your eyes. As you increase air pressure into the sender you should see the needle deflection change just as the guage needle does on the dash.

And I guess the same test would work with the cheesie pressure switch. No pressure (Basically switched off) Pressure above just six or seven pounds (Switched ON) and you should get full needle deflection.

I did a search and read all of your last six posts. They all have something to do with oil pressure.

Exactly what point are you at right now ? Did you ever get your pan off ? Did you replace the pump ? Did you check your rod and main bearings ?

If indeed you have oil pressure at idle and then nothing when you rev it up........ . sounds like your sucking the pan dry.

Excessive bearing clearance and a high volume oil pump could possibly cause the symptoms you are describing.

High volume oil pump is not nessessary. The stock pump should more than be able to handle the job.

Did you pull ALL the rod and main caps to check the bearing condition ? I would hate to see you put it all back together and still have one bad bearing.

Another possibility: Somewhere I read that worn rod bearings will throw oil by centrifigul force. Consequently, as RPMs go up, oil pressure goes down. Worn mains are consistently low throughout the RPM range.

i got it on today.idled around 55psi went back together alot easier.i know i should have taken all the caps and mains off but this is probably temporary. i plan in the next year to replace the whole nine yards.not sure which to do rebuild(already once with previous owner)or go with remanufactured.any one know what a factory new 300 goes for? not sure which route to go.
