New Rule
We always have long debates on what size tire fits on what size lift, and there are generally two setups to be had. I think that we ought to list the sizes that will fit for two categories, on and off road. For example we know a 38" tire will fit with a 8" lift for street driving, but if you do any hard off-roading it will rub without a doubt. Take for instance jetjock, who has 36" tires with 9.5" of lift. A good off-roading combo.
Some basic On-Road sizes:
3.5" = 35" tire
6" = 37" tires
8" = 38" tire
10" = Im not sure...
Someone who actually off-roads their rig hard can fill in for the off-road lift and tire size deal..cwb and jetjock...
It will also depend on the brand of lift and the brand of tires.
My 35s rub bad under a 4" off road.
Come up with some wheel size and tire combo we all agree on and go from there.....
Like I said we will just add to this thread for a while untill we can pretty much all agree on it and then I will sort it out and make it happen.
For street and mild off roading (some combos might rub on the leaf springs):
2-3" leveling kit for 33/12.5 on 10" wide wheels
4" for 35x12.5 on 10" wide wheels
6" for 36x14.5 or 37x12.5 on 10" wide wheels
8" for 38x15.5 on 10" wide wheels
For some pretty hard wheeling:
4" for 33/12.5 on 10" wide wheels
6" for 35x12.5 on 10" wide wheels
8" for 36x14.5 or 37x12.5 on 10-12" wide wheels.
10"-10.5" for 38X15.5 on 10-12" wide wheels.
For pure street, stuffing tires in the wheel wells I think I'll leave that out.
Should we also include the 39.5" and taller tires??...........that would have go into a little more detail and probably more difficult for me to decide.
By the way this new truck you all have helped me build is awsome, thanks to everyone, it wouldn't have been as nice or easy to do some of the electrical mods with out your help.
Bill
P.S. So I actually contribute something to the topic if this thread - for the differences between a 250 and 350 I suggest that we attempt to capture any esoteric differences between the two, such as certain options where the availability is different between a 250 and 350. A starting example would be why you can't get the snowplow package on a 250 PSD, but you can on a 350 PSD(at least forddirect seems to not allow it for me).
As always my recomendation is Max 37"ers on an 8".. if there PJs, stick with 36"ers.
How about:
For street and mild off roading (some combos might rub on the leaf springs):
2-3" leveling kit for 33/12.5 on 10" wide wheels
4" for 35x12.5 on 10" wide wheels
6" for 36x14.5 or 37x12.5 on 10" wide wheels
8" for 38x15.5 on 10" wide wheels
For some pretty hard wheeling:
4" for 33/12.5 on 10" wide wheels
6" for 35x12.5 on 10" wide wheels
8" for 36x14.5 or 37x12.5 on 10-12" wide wheels.
10"-10.5" for 38X15.5 on 10-12" wide wheels.
This, IMO, is EXACTLY how the info s/b displayed. A list of what tires will fit with various suspension mods (as well as stock). Maybe the only thing to add would be to further break it down by F-250 and F-350. Do a F-250 from stock suspension and rims all the way up to 8" and 10" lifts and the tires/wheel sizes that'll fit those applications. Then do the same for the F-350. I realize that'd encompass a fair amount of research and a healthy sized "sticky" post, but as mentioned above, it'd sure help tremendously; just like the "decipher vin code" sticky did for me the very first time I logged on to post a thread asking same.
Great idea, I hope you don't mind doing the legwork and I hope Yeti agrees.
Best,

This would help newbies like me alot ,but I don't think you need to go for the larger tires cause anyone doing that already probably knows what will work.
First, unless something has changed recently, the search engine searches signatures as well as message text. So, if I go looking for threads on say, Flowmaster, then I get every thread Dagwood41 has responded to regardless of the topic. Or if I go looking for info on 285/75/16, I get every thread BigDawg54 has responded too, etc, etc. (I'm not singling you guys out, just randomly picked a couple from this thread to illustrate my point) If the search functionality has changed then the this may not be an issue, but, see next item...
Second, as has been mentioned, the search functionality has been "too busy" quite often lately so many can't use the search function to get the answers (and I can't validate if my first point is still valid). I know one response may be to subscribe so you can search, but if you are going to require someone to search before posting and that requires subscription, you might as well make this a subscription only site. And I think doing that will decrease the number of new users attracted to this site.

I have 2 questions?
1) What's the difference between an F250 and an F350?
2) Which is better: gas or diesel?
JUST KIDDING!!!
JUST KIDDING

But Really whats the difference
