Decal removal

Am patching a hole near the "4X4" decal on rear quarter panel of my '93 F250. Is there a way to easily remove this decal, so I don't have to burr it off and re-paint the whole area?

3M (and probably others) make rattle cans that will soften it up so you can use a plastic squeegee to scrape it off. There will then be the glue to remove, with another rattle can spray to remove it. If you have a heat gun (similar to a hair dryer, but hotter) you can soften them up with it and skip the first rattle can, but you'll still need the second one to remove the glue.

Heat gun worked like a champ. Not even any residue. Thanks!

What about removing pint striping, will the heat gun do the same thing? and is there any danger of burning the paint?

I should think it would work fine; I didn't come even close to heating the surface to the point where the paint was at risk.
