Is it possible to remove the "4x4 OFF ROAD" decals and not screw up the paint or have it be obvious that the decals have been removed? This is a 2001 truck not new.
Warm them up gently with a hair dryer then slowly peel them off. If there is any residue left you can use acetone or WD40 to soften that up so you can wipe it off with a rag. Bodyshops also have decal residue remover....made by 3M I think.
Decal removal definitely can be done...I had a friend remove like a million pinstripes from his old Isuzu, although I don't know how he did it. Good luck with it...
On another note, I recently used some of that orange stuff (Goo gone, or something) to remove the sticker price window from my truck, and somehow it seems to have smeared around the window. Even windexing the window till my arm goes numb hasn't gotten rid of it all. Anybody know some alternative window cleaners that may do the trick? Sorry for the lousy description
Try using a 500 watt haogen work light. Gently warm the area and then lift the edge carefully. Continue to peel the decal as it warms up. Go slow and carefully whichever route you decide to take an dall should go well.
My wife took the decals of her saturn a couple of years ago with a hair dryer. It was one of those big swoosh things like the early toyota pickups had on the doors. She warmed the decal and it came right off - almost in one whole piece. After a wash, you couldn't tell that it was ever there. The car looked great and the best thing was, I didn't have to do a thing!

If there is crap on your window and it won't come off, use solvent. Just don't drip any on your paint so it doesn't take the clear coat off.
