same thing happened to mine, had to rewire the whole damn thing, tried the quick fixes and patching but after all that still ran into problms, finally got rid of them by rewireing it all, auto zone has the parts, just go replace everything..

Question reply to Dennis......

The turn signals work as well as the tail lamps....however the brake lights do not work.........It has been fixed twice, but then will lose power to the stop light switch.....I assume it is a short in the column....Is there a quick fix.....? Thanks

1) Turn signal lights work. ( Front and back)
2) Indicator lights work (Do both sides flash?)
3) Running/Park Lights work

4)Brake lights Don't work.

How about the hazard lights.....do they work ?

> I assume it is a short in the column.

The stop lamps draw their power from the flasher (circuit#810). What you should do is switch out both flashers for at least 552 flashers and see if that solves the problem.

On my truck, since it was so butchered and the replacement parts cost so much money, I just wired a toggle switch for the turn signals and a separate circuit for the brake lamps from a new ATO fuse box. I put a ATO type relay in the new fuse box. I do not have turn signal cancel like the factory setup, but, neither do real trucks.

At the worse, for $20 you can by-pass the stock set up and put the brake lamps on a different circuit on a new fuse box or if you want to use the stock fuse box maybe $10 counting a relay and socket.

If when you check for power at the brake light switch and you don't have power on either side, then it's probably not in the column. The only way it could be would if a short is blowing a brake light fuse or burning up the wire before it makes it to the switch.
First I would check the fuses, one may be just blowing out.
Then I'd check to see if there is power on either side on the brake light switch. If there is none on either side, I would cut the side that doesn't go to the column, splice on a wire and hook it into the fuse box.
