I have a 2002 Ranger Edge and recently purchased a set of Elegante tail lights. My truck has a two light system (backup light and brake/turn signal). Would like to convert to three light setup with separate backup, brake and turn signal lights using the 3 bulb sockets molded into the Elegante tail light housing for a more custom look. Can this be done without rewiring the whole truck?
Would probly be tough cause your turn signal switch in the column is made to knock out and rerout the power through witch turn signal your using.
Mostly foreighn carns and GM trucks started kicking in the seperate amber lights and the turn signal switch just switches on and off for those.
Its very simple. You will need to get some bulb sockets from your local auto parts store. The taillight probably has a housing for 2 3156 bulbs, and one 3157 bulb. You already have a 3156 reverse bulb, and a 3157 combination lamp, so all you will have to do is get a 3156 socket and splice it into your 3157 combination lamp. This way, only one light will be lit with just the headlights on, and with brakes or signal, both will light up. There is no way to seperate the signal function from the brake function, however.
You can also run it as a marker light and make it alternate flash between the too bulbs light chevy does with thier brake lights. Splice one wire into the wire that is hot with the parking lights on and ground it to the wire that is hot when the turn signal is flashing, and it will alternate back and forth when your turn on the turn signal. It's sounds funky, but that how chevy gets thier light to do that. Actually it will only alternate when the parking or headlight are on, when they are not on it will flash the same as the brake light.
