It senses all objects in the rear of the truck.Even a small dog will set it off.
3 to 6 feet depending on size and where it is.
A beep is heard. It starts slow. The closer you get the faster it goes.At about one foot the buzzer is solid. If the radio is on it will lower the sound so you pay attention to the beep.
You can turn it off to tow something.
I think it is worth the money.
Ford reverse sensing Is sold only as a factory option.
It requires the factory tow package. There are some aftermarket systems but i don't know their cost.
MSRP is $245 to have it factory installed. But like the previous person said, you first must have the trailer tow package before you can add the reverse sensing system.
When ordering my 04 Lariet, I thought the reverse sensing system was the most useless option I had ever heard of.
Well, within the first 20 feet I drove my new truck, leaving the dealer, I was very happy to have mine functioning. With the extended height of the bed and tailgate, and the height of the truck itself, rearward vision is greatly reduced from my previous truck and I quickly realized how valuable this option really is.

Which is why I thought it was so strange that Car & Driver said that they thought it was a totally useless feature. Everyone who has it on their vehicle think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Maybe they only tested their F-150 on the race track or the skid pad; you know Car & Driver.....
