ever sence I installed the super tuner to my truck the waste gate will open when the truck shifts. usualy when I'm getting on the highway. now the waste gate is opening and staying open but only when the engine is starting to warm up. I figure I need to tow something heavy up a steep grade and clear out any gunk. Anyone have any ideas???
the truck has 125k on it and I have never had a vehicle with that many miles on it. so i'm getting a little woried.
After doing sone reading some of the thread I think it might be my EBPV but I have never herd it befor I figured it was the waste gate. at what temps will it operate
The waste gate and the EBPV ARE NOT the same thing.
The EBPV closes when the engine temp is low, such as start up. The waste gate opens when there is to much boost pressure. Both may be on the turbo but do different things.

All SuperDuty's (99 and up) have a waste gate. Earler PSD's did not. The EBPV is on all PSD's with the cold weather package, which is most of them.

I've noticed my EBPV valve staying open as well, even after the temps are up in the 'useable' range. I was at a stop light and it was active, so I decided to try a shut down and restart.... and after I restarted it, the valve was no longer engaged ....
I'm a little confused (not unusual for me). I have a 95 PSD and there is some kind of linkage going to the turbo that appears to operate an internal mechanism (a valve I would assume). What is this?
The mechanism looks like a butterfly. I will post a picture of it tomorrow at work, we removed the portion of the turbo that has the butterfly in it and replaced it with a banks power elbow. The question I have is now that we did that the actual actuating rod for that just dangles around in-side (still attached to the linkage) the housing, does that hurt anything? In the banks instructions it never said anything about removal the rod.
The mechanism is your exaust back pressure valve(EBPV). It is a butterfly valve as descibed above that closes when your truck is cold to help your diesel warm up.
