when adjusting waste gate i suppose you are to back off the jam nut and disconect rod to waste gate the screw it in to up boost or out to lose boost is this corect.
Take the whole waste gate off, then put one end in a vise and shorten the rod by threading it in. Do not let the shaft turn inside the top, bad things will happen. You got it shorter rod=more boost.
snapon is right your best and safest bet is to remove the waste gate and clamp one end in a vice and use the correct size wrench or a good pair of vice grips and even some penetrating lube to help... if the waste gate rod wont shorten or its very hard to turn do not force it! you dont want to break anything!
