Hi
First of all, I would like to apologize for asking for help on my first post, but I have no choice. I have been working on this 1992 for ranger for three days now, and cannot find the ignition module. I have the manual, and it is not where it is supposed to be. I do not know what type of ignition I have, but it does have a distributor. The module is not located on the distributor, or anywhere I can find on the firewall. The truck ran great when I bought it, but only made it 25 miles when it just stopped on me. It is getting gas, but no spark. A little help would be greatly appreciated. I am stuck. Three days with no progress. Thanks in advance.
Thanks anyways, but I finally found it. It was located on the side of the radiator mounted inside of what looks like a voltage regulator. Needless to say, that was not the problem. I guess I will have to keep trying other solutions. Any suggestions?
I had a similar problem and the ICM checked out good as well did the coil and the pickup in the distrubitor, but when I pulled the dist to have the pickup coil checked I found that the gear at the bottom was wore out and had lost a few teeth, a new gear and all is well. Just something you might wanna check.
Hi
I appreciate it, but I finally got it running. After changing the ignition module, pickup coil, ignition coil, and distributor, I found out it was the brain box. Turns out there was water in the box, and fried it. Running like a champ now. Thanks
My 1990 Ranger Pickup XLT just quit the other day. Got it home. Fuel supply is fine, no spark. I installed new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Still won't start. I am open to ideas to get it going and get back to work. Thanks.
I have a '93 A'star w/ 3.0 L six. 50 miles ago it was running poorly so I installed new plug wires and coil. Ran like a stripe-ed-a$$ed-ape! Then the other day (50 miles later) driving 55mph it died deader-than-a-mackerel! No spark anywhere. I removed finned aluminum electronic device from inner side of right front fender and took it to OReilly Auto Parts for testing. (they called it an ECM. Is it ECM or ICM?) Anyway, they tested it and said it "failed all tests". So I bought a new one ($60), installed it and it still won't start, no spark! I tested the connector at the ECM, (or ICM?) With key on, 2 of the terminals in the connector are "hot", With key off, all terminals off.
Try the brain box. That was the problem I had. They say these things rarely go bad, but I have had two of them go out on me(different vehicles). Otherwise, the ignition module, pickup coil, and the distributor are the only other componets needed for spark. Your local autoparts store can test your ignition module for you. They say these go out quite often on the 3.0 ford.
