Well guys,I think my starter wants to go to parts heaven! I went to start it tonight, and "click"! My heart started beating really fast because I was thinking "hydro-lock"! Pulled the hood and looked at the antifeeze;whew, still full! And I remembered I had the lowers replaced 11/02 so I felt better.Anyway,I kept turning the key on and off until the clicking stopped and it started.I drove home, turned it off,and tried it again.Started rite up; but I think the starter is about to go.Any opinions?
BOF what you're describing is usually a pretty good sign that the starter is on it's last legs. I've seen some though that would do this every once in a while for a long time though before they finally died. Like Jimmy said check your connections, especially at the starter.
When I got home I pulled my truck up on my ramps just in case it didnt start.Every half hour ive been going out there and starting it about 8-10 times and so far so good. Ive done this for abot 4 hours.I'll check it out in the morning when theres light.
Ok guys,i'm no electrical guru but it seems like my electrical system has gotten better since tightening that loose connection.I know my starter turns over quicker now.Is this possible?
A loose connection causes a voltage drop which causes the starter to turn over slower. Simply put, your starter wasn't getting full battery voltage to it...some was being lost at the bad connection.
