My 1992 F-150 5.8 with automatic transmission "slips" when I shift into reverse.
There's no problem going forward, but when shifting into reverse, I have to accelerate for it to start moving backward.
Does anyone have any ideas?
The oil level is fine.
Thanks
Ford did not put the AOD behind the 351W in a truck so was it swapped in by you or someone else? What is the transmission code on the driver’s side B pillar?
or you could look at the pan and match it up to a transmission ID chart easily found on the internet. This is one I got by searching for Ford transmission ID chart…
There are feedbolts between the valve body and the case. If they loosen, they can cause this. If they are tight, about the only other way this could happen is a damaged reverse clutch.
If I were to change the fluid in my transmission, I would drain the converter. I believe the factory converters had a drain plug [my 95 did]. I am not a fan of mixing old and new fluid and do what I can to prevent that. I swear, mine took about 16 quarts or more.
If you elect to dive deep in the transmission, what are you going to do when the plate gasket tears? I would have a new one. I would also know exactly where all the ***** should be when they fall out.
