Precision 2648PS torque converter

I need to get a torque converter for the 4R100 and the builder and supplier use Precision of New Hampton, which I'm good with. The supplier is saying the part number on the unit is 2648PS, but from what I'm seeing...see attached...that's not an option. I asked about the 2648PSRV and he said his warehouse doesn't have that available, but I'm thinking this is what he actually has. I think they make one which has a lower stall speed that has an additional MX designation, but I don't see that as even being available in the cut sheet. I'm assuming these are all triple disc convertors given I've seen mention of a single heavy duty disc, but I think that may either be an old add or one for the gas units.

I'm also getting a forward drum from the supplier that is fully splined, versus the half splined unit that comes in the stock 4R100...not sure if it's for an E40D which had it, but they interchange regardless. I'm guessing the truck is making somewhere around 400hp and maybe double that in torque.

I have also been able to locate a billet input shaft for a decent price...$210...locally. There is nothing wrong with my stock unit even though the forward drum it fits into looks a bit stressed.

So my questions are:
#1 - What is the stall speed on the Precision 2648PS...assuming this is a 2648APSRV...torque converter?
#2 - Does Precision offer a lower stall speed convertor than the one above that possibly has the MX designation?
#3 - Would it be worth spending the money on the billet input shaft given the stock unit looks fine with my power levels?

I won't be able to call Precision of New Hampton until Monday and was hopeful to get some answers here. I also won't be able to go look at and put my hands/eyes on the actual unit the local supplier has until Monday, so maybe I can get things straight and hit the ground running come Monday morning...

I can't give you any specs but that is the torque converter that my local rebuilder sells to me with their remanufactured transmissions (and I put in my 1995 after its converter failure). I haven't had an issue or concerns from customers and my 1995 feels like a stock pickup with it (stall speed and converter clutch apply feel). I don't rebuild transmissions for customers because of warranty purposes, just FYI.

There's another rebuilder in Billings that uses a different brand of converter. I happen to have one in the 1973 - not by choice, the rolled 2002 donor came with the transmission - and it is AWFUL. When a transmission rebuilder uses an insanely high torque converter stall speed to cover up any weaknesses in their transmissions, that's bad. I have personally rebuilt five or six of their transmissions for family and friends and I'm not impressed.

I'm pretty sure @ESwift runs and sells Precision of New Hampton...he might be able to help direct you. I think he uses a lower stall speed than stock.

I have a precision industries that BTS uses. Not sure the stall speed and that I like it...I think my truck will get to 1600-1800 rpm just to get going over a curb/ parking block...seems excessive, but I don't know much

You don't notice any lower stall speed? Do you know if it's the 2648PSRV?

I called Precision this morning and the 2648RV is a basic convertor with a lower stall speed of 1,800rpms. The 2648PSRV is the same as the aforementioned, but it has a billet face. I was hoping for a 1,600rpm or a little lower stall speed, but I'm not paying double/triple to get it.

what is stock stall? I'm seeing that the 2648RV should be 400 rpm less than stock... So which one are you going with

Stock stall speed is 2,000-2,200rpm from what I understand. So the 2648 being 1,800rpm stall speed makes since. It is looking like the billet face version being a 2648PSRV will be the choice...

okay, interesting... I would have thought it would be lower but I don't fully understand all that anyway. I've also been told more power changes stall speed; something along those lines.

Sounds like you have a plan. From what Eric (Eswift says about his truck) I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

You're going to find the stall of that PONH converter to feel perfect, no lower is needed
