So I have the engine out, would it be ideal to replace torque converter? This is the one that the truck has, is this the stock one or a whole different converter that previous owners must have replaced before?
It’s a stock transmission but will be using it for towing here and then. Current transmission shift find
Who has a good upgrade for a torque converter? Thought I’d replace while it’s out
Might want to talk to BTS. He and Pattie both told me that I would love their torque converter and they were right! The whole setup is great. I can honestly tell the difference between my stock converter and the new one. There is a lot of difference in the way this converter gets the power to the ground. The lockup is really crisp, not jerky, but crisp. There is less rpm loss because their converter is a much more efficient design of the vanes and the torque multiplier. Also, this converter has much more friction area than a stock converter.
Yeah I would replace while it’s out. The Torco E4od 6 stud billet has worked flawlessly for me the last couple years, it’s the low stall version. Don’t be like me and have to take your trans out 6 months after a rebuild to replace this unit
Now would be the most ideal time to do the up-pipes while the engine is out, assuming that they could use some attention based on the soot witness marks on the firewall.
Somewhat confusingly, there are at least two different torque converter vendors named "Precision".
There is Precision Industries, in Tennessee, which manufactures the "Stallion" torque converter, painted purple, that Brian's Truck Shop (BTS) usesused to use (thanks ESwift).
Then there is Precision of New Hampton, in Iowa, that is referenced on the label of the torque converter in the photo above.

PI quality went downhill the last few years. BTS used Georend now, just like Sam Wyse and A1 do.
The PNH is a great mid range converter for under 600hp, I ran one for the last 4 years before going to a Wyse stage 2 with a Georend (went with a lower stall to match the low stall I was used to with the PNH)
My used PNH will be going into my "new" plow truck in place of whatever is in it now(ford reman 4r100 in it I believe)

OK, I am on vacation right now and 5 o’clock has come a lot sooner than usual, so I am going to be the ******* that finally asks what a freaking plow truck is?🤪 Are we talking about snow or soil?
The transmission shop I get my customers' remans from uses PNH exclusively and they supply my personal torque converters on my rebuilds as well. The transmission shop has two flavors available for the E4OD and 4R100 but I'm not sure if PNH has more....never checked nor had a problem.

Plowing snow, unless ground isnt frozen, then we call it winter grading🤣

Glad I don’t have to worry about that crap! I know you guys have something that keeps you where you are geologically, just do not know what it is. You will never have to worry about me moving north!

I cant stand heat.
besides it makes for a pretty back yard
here are some shots from the last 16 years at this property(our family has been maintaining this place for 45+ years)
Polar opposite here, I wear a thermal long sleeve top all summer long when I’m working. Snow is and has been a major interruption to my occupation for 60+ % of my life. I like it at other places, just not where I live.
