"This entire thing with having two gas engines that are so similar and two different transmissions to go with them is amusing at best, odd really."

Likewise two diesel outputs, how much would it cost Ford to sell one of each?
Having test drove the 6.8 and 7.3 I did not feel a difference big enough to sway me one way or the other, it came down to what I could find the best deal on.
Likewise I would bet most diesel owners would not be too upset if there was only one option base would be right in the hunt with dodge or GM and the high output will beat them all.

"Maybe we should have a poll and see what type of buyers bought Superdutys.

Texas Bro's
Soccer Moms
Work Truck users that tow and haul
Recreational users: Campers, 5ers, overlanders ect.

My money says the vast majority on this forum are Texas Bros and Soccer moms."

Don't forget us Luddites who were looking for a "basic" truck and discovered the superduties ( for work), because we do most of our own work and like things simple.

yup, it's interesting working downtown where the money is and almost all diesel tremors in the lots, Alberta is like your Texas re; oil patch, but Calgary is the white collar hub, i hear from field though a lot more gas out there, lots of migration from diesel to gas, but still quite a few diesel....the downtown guys here just have the money and order most loaded/powerful trucks, i don't think they keep them past warranty before they trade in on new ones...me and my truck are 'DP's' for sure lol, we don't really fit in

Jeez, really? Think your perception might be flawed. Poling this forum will be vastly different than your Facebook or TicToc crowd. Read the room.

Is there a contractual reason Ford has to have two SD gas v8s at all times?
The 6.8 is optimized for most people here.

The 7.3 is rated for heavy duty. F550, F600, motorhome use. Rumor has it, if the 7.3 doesnt sell well, only the 6.8 will remain soon. Might only be offered at the work truck plant, or as a crate engine.

I still find the tramsmission quible hilarious. Ford could really dupe you guys into a crappy school bus transmission, if they wanted to.

No flaw on my part. I see the postings and responses to various threads. Lots of Texas Bro's on this forum. They just don't want to admit it.

In SoCal we had 909ers, from the Inland Empire 909 area code.

Agreed. The texas brodozer thing, lives. Super easy to spot the tribalism.

If ford offers a 3rd transmission, that shifts terrible, but is listed as "super uber HD trans with internal and external coolers", there would be 1087 posts of "Why cant I get one in a gas 250?" A Super HO diesel with an extra 30hp, but only in 7th gear, same thing. "We'll have 2. Take muh money."

Then theres the boomers that cant wrap their head around the idea that modern transmissions prefer higher than luke warm temperatures. And 2500 rpm is the debil.

See it at work lately. Many noobs are disappointed that the 7.3's are replacing f600 diesel trucks. Despite the 7.3 having the same power, less weight, less cost, more reliability.

I watched a previous company puposefully make sure that thier Fords we're more expensive to maintain. Letting trans cooler lines rust to failure, to cause a trans failure. Or at least, an excuse for a dealer tech to sell a trans. Freaking out over every minor fault, while dangerous GM rust buckets were loved. Because they wanted the spread sheet to be pro Dodge. Then they switched to Dodge Rams, and the Rams were clearly not as nice as the Fords. You cant fix some permanently ignorant people. Especially guys that get emotionally weird about trucks.

I love the Allison in my 37' gas motorhome. It has a drain plug. 20 years old and the pan gasket does not leak a single drop.
